As you may know, the elevated walkway which runs from the Western end of the terminal building is currently only used for passengers departing from the satellite pier; inbound passengers are bussed to the arrivals hall, as they are from the majority of stands on the main apron.

The proposal is to modify this walkway so it can also be used for inbound passengers, and an extension built right across the front of the upper level of the terminal to the arrivals hall at the Eastern end. Towers will be built at several points along the length of the walkway to allow access for inbound passengers from the main apron, therefore only passengers arriving on remote stands will need to be bussed. Airbridges could be added at a later date if required.

As far as the runway extension is concerned, I don't think there will be any movement on this for a few years as the existing length is adequate for current operations. The airport management were keen to gain planning approval for the extension so they could build it relatively quickly should an airline identify a future requirement for it.

It has been suggested UPS may be one airline that could require the increased length should they expand their operation at EMA; so it may happen when UPS decide to go ahead with their new distribution hub.

Hope this helps?

Just a little joke, having said that Ryanair do fly to some places that i have never heard of, never mind wanting to go!!

I think that one carrier from EMA to MLA is probably enough and the pax age profile probably suits baby better than Ryanair, I was surprised that baby added IBZ which i would have thought suited Ryanair better than baby?

Over head walk way.

Looking at the way they threw this up at EMA for the 40's stands, i would think that this could go up in under a month as most is prefab sections on simple steel pillars, a must for EMA, this last weeks trek through muddy salt to arrivals is a disgrace and ruins one's shoes.

How are Flybe doing on the BHD route? i hear on the vine that baby's advance booking in Jan to/from BHD are in the hundred + most days, mind you the tickets have been very cheap

FR- 12th Dec 2010 09:43

Is it true that a set number of babys seats on the MLA are set aside for a travel agent?

I think one of the main reasons the runway extension is on hold is because North West Leicestershire District Council put certain conditions on the final go ahead, mainly to do with the night operations, these conditions are designed to cut back the night flying and will hamper the Airport operations considerably if applied.

I'm not sure about Flybe but I have heard that bmibaby brought the change over from BFS to BHD forward from the 12th January to the 1st January due to better than expected passenger response from all bases. This could most likely be from an increase in passengers that prefer to fly to BHD to get to the city as well as more passengers agreeing to transfer there BFS bookings to BHD than what WW may have originally thought?
Anyway, I do hope they do well on the route, at first I thought it was a bit daft as they were not competing with any other airlines on the BFS route, though baby have been committed with the Belfast domestic routes since they launched.

I believe many travel agents use bmibaby's MLA flights, however, I don't think there is an allocation of seats set aside for these operators when compared to their AGP and ALC flights where Thomas Cook have an allocation of seats set on various days. Correct me if im wrong on this though.

Quote from EMA's Cargo Website-

"In the rolling 12 months up to and including November 2010, East Midlands Airport cargo throughput reached a record level of 308,087 tonnes - the busiest 12 month period in the Airport's 45 year history."

Bmi baby passenger numbers from BHD are not down to increase in people looking to travel from BHD its passengers that had already used Flybe and market thats already there, plus people that have no choice but to fly to BHD because no alternative yet from Bfs once another operater starts Man and Bhx that will change plus the fact that baby is landing at Bhd for free allows them to charge RYR type fares that will all come to an end when they have to start paying there way.

ematom1 14th Dec 2010 17:21

Rzeszów is back - 2x weekly

Not sure if there is any more announcements

FR- 17th Dec 2010 06:13

Looks like 8 a/c this summer then, im sure the crews will be happy to start flyig again. I wonder if all 8 a/c will be parked around the 40s and 30-something? If the walk way is built in time.

True, makes you wonder what will happen to BHX next winter. But good news for EMA and EMA based crews. I would like to see FEZ, GRX, Oslo or Nimes, maybe OPO to be added.
