new rail service

From sun 13/12/09 new direct rail service from Sheffield to East midlands Parkway each hour, must be now best route for south yorkshire folk and better service to a airport than others, Has DSA is more trouble to get to is this to be EMA big move on yorkshire folk.

Made my first visit to East Midlands Parkway on a charter train to Edinburgh on sat 12/12/09 looks a nice station and handle our 11 coach and 2 locos very well.

Thanks guys, this will be a great help!

Stuart, you're right the rail connection will tempt Yorkshire folk, but the Anytime and Offpeak fares from Sheffield are no cheaper than to MAN. Journey times once you include the bus are likely to be similar to Sheffield -> MAN and unlike MAN the first trains of the day aren't early enough to safely make any flight before 8am.

As for DSA, well it would be nice if an airport that carries Sheffield's name had any direct bus or train link with the city :D

BMI ema

Oliww is the bmi airbus still planned for ema this summer on charter to
Goldtrail and others.

Routes and cheap fares tempt people, not stations or rail links. You might look for the airport/route first, then the fare and then work out how you're going to get there. Unless you live round the corner from the station, you still have to get there in the first place and how are you going to do that? Public transport, taxi ... maybe a mate if you're lucky, and then you have the hassle of getting back. Get a taxi and it'll like as not be door to door service, you pay for it but it is easily more convenient than lugging your cases on and off trains etc.

stuart-travel: I am unsure at the moment, their website doesn't seem to want to work for me for the past 2 weeks, its been unable to find the correct pages, or just not worked. Not very good, as it happens on different computers I've been on as well. I don't think it is true for May, Jun, but we may see another A320/A321 operating charters in July/Aug again for 2010.

Can we come to expect any new routes from FR for 2010. Fuerteventura is back, so possibly this, now just 1x with TCX and TOM, compared to 2009 where it was 2x TCX and 1x TOM, so I think pax are there.

Porto? Stockholm? Madrid? Trapani? Seville?

finding_nema 20th Dec 2009 17:13

I'd assume bmi charter were coming back for at least July and August, as for those two months they're supposed to be operating a weekly TFS, DLM, ACE, LPA and CFU for Thomas Cook, not sure of the equipment or the days though. On top of this TCX won't be flying from EMA to ALC or AGP this summer instead using capacity on bmibaby flights twice a week. Finally, on top of the 2 based A320s, on a Monday there should be a 757 positioning in from MAN to do a SSH.

tom summer 2010

hey all the thomson schedule has been released for 2010 showing ema 2x737 1x757w also the bmi airbus for goldtrail seats are now on sale with several flight brokers with the same flight numbers as per web site

ryansf 29th Dec 2009 10:04

In essence, it's exactly the same as what DSA has - get a train to a station, and wait for a bus. East Mids Parkway will have 1 train per hour from Sheffield, Doncaster station has about 6 or so. The buses from EMP to EMA are every half an hour and take 15 minutes - buses from Doncaster Interchange (attached to the station) are about every 15 minutes and take about 20-25 minutes. If anything, if the sole reason for choosing an airport was based on rail links, I (still) think DSA wins hands down (out of DSA and EMA, rather than all airports!).

Still, for EMA, I still think it's far quicker (and cheaper) to get off at Derby (from the North) or Loughborough (South) and get the Skylink, as what was originally there before. I understand East Midlands Parkway station was intended first to be a "park and ride" to London, Nottingham etc. and as an airport station second.

fireflybob 29th Dec 2009 12:40

If we had a joined up transport policy in the UK they would have diverted the rail track through East Midlands Airport and had a station there.

No need then for shuttle buses and the challenges of crossing the M1 roundabout with all the congestion which is ever present there!

OliWW 30th Dec 2009 20:44

BMI summer flights

One reason why I don't think they will operate is because on Goldtrail, no matter where the destination, the flight times do not change, its always 08:30 departure and 17:30 arrival... but then on the other hand, the flight number changes?

Well Done EMA.

A Big Well done :D to all the staff at the airport. Snow Clearers. Fire Crew. Ops And ATC. For keeping the airfield open this evening. Only a 40 min closure for snow clearing and abit later on a 20min closure for DeIcing. Lost very little if anything.

Well Done Guys:ok:

TOM7457 ACE-EMA Thursday 7/1/09

Can someone please enlighten me as I am fairly new to the EMA area.

Do TOM have 3 planes based at EMA this winter? My parents are due back tomorrow on TOM7457 from ACE but looking at the EMA website there are obviously significant delays due to the horrendous weather the UK has been experiencing.

TOM7219 ALC now due in 7/1 1335 (24 hr delay)
TOM7345 FUE now due in 7/1 0235 (8 hr 20 min delay)
TOM7319 PFO now due in 7/1 1310 (18 hr 35 delay)

They are from Newcastle and so have a hotel booked in Nottingham for tomorrow night - I dont want them to waste money so Im thinking should they be looking to cancel it as it appears unlikely that these aircraft are going to make up significant time in 24 hours.

Tomorrows flights are GOI, SSH and ACE by the looks of it.

Any ideas gratefully received and well done to all airport staff for keeping it running to the best they can.

Mr Angry from Purley 6th Jan 2010 20:16

would have
Looks like they are in a pickle and it's difficult to hesitate a guess on what will happen tommorrow (that might sound strange but when the disruption is this bad it's true)
looking at the flights I would say the GOA will go first as due out at 0030 tommorrow am then the SSH and your ACE go out tomorrow afternoon. The earliest they would be back is say plane leaves EMA 1430 into ACE 1830 1 hr turn 1930 back into EMA 2330 APROX TIMES.

However

The aircraft have to get back into EMA tonight then back out and come back tommorrow.
Weather permitting, crew permitting.
However, it depends on the state of the Thomson aircraft around the UK you could find your parents turn up tomorrow and get shipped to somewhere else and road it to EMA, or they might throw a spare aircraft into EMA and it goes on time.

Whatever happens your in good hands. If ACE has a departure board on it's web site keep an eye on it first
Good luck :\

OliWW 6th Jan 2010 20:23

TOM7219 was due in at 21:15 on Tuesday, but is now due 13:35 on Thursday, a little more than 24 hour, it operates a W pattern on a Tuesday to DSA, but got diverted to NCL, and then since that period has been late ever since, that was on G-CDZM

TOM7345 was due back at EMA from FUE tonight at 17:15, but only departed at as TOM7344 at 20:08, this is because G-CDZM is somewhere other than EMA, so had to wait for a LGW aircraft to become available, but with LGW being closed nearly all day, only got to EMA at 19:00, that is now due back at EMA at 05:20 - G-CDZI

TOM7318 was surpose to depart at 08:05, from what I can remember, im sure this departed at around 11 this morning, so am not sure why it has such a long delay...

TOM0172 to Goa should be on time, most airports are open now, though if it is coming of a LGW aircraft which is likely, might not leave till around 5am, it may come from the BHX G-OBYI, if so, wont depart until at lease 7.30am

Regarding ACE, I'm pretty sure things should be back to normal tomorrow, at EMA anyway, nightmare at MAN and LGW at the mo. Thomson usually put SSH on one of the winglet B738's, but it depends, G-CDZI will most likely be at EMA before the SSH departure tomorrow, so it will most likely do that first because it is a longer route, and would cause a heavier delay. G-FDZE will be back from PFO at around 13:15 all being well, so ACE would depart on that at around 14:30 all being well. So it could go at either time, depending on crew positions around the UK and aircrafts. I feel sorry for the crew who were dropped off at NCL yesterday!!

Mr Angry from Purley 6th Jan 2010 20:37

Oliww

I'm only a closet spotter I bow to your knowledge and information ! :\

I think also ACE closes at night I may be wrong

Boeing Junkie 6th Jan 2010 21:11

Mr Angry, pretty sure that you are correct regarding ACE being shut at night :ok:
