Nottingham East Midlands

Just be grateful it's not called "Nottingham-Derby (Brian Clough) International Airport".

On the other hand, doesn't EMA have a better claim to the name "Robin Hood" than DSA, Sherwood Forest is in Nottinghamshire, not Yorkshire.

Local Variation 26th Nov 2012 21:17

Errr....no.

EMA is in Leicestershire :ugh:

DSA is about two miles from Nottinghamshire; is nearer to the Major Oak than EMA; Robin Hood had connections with Barnsdale in north Doncaster and Loxley in Sheffield. Haven't exactly seen tourists flocking here just because of the name though! The statue of him at the airport is superb - shame we haven't got a few more passengers to see it.

Thanks for the info, johnnychips. Never realised that DSA is so close to Notts, thought Finningley was north of Doncaster, thanks for the geography lesson!

Also had no idea that there's a statue of Robin Hood at the airport. Have to see it soon!!

BTW, a nice line in redistribution of wealth, was Robin Hood the world's first socialist?

North Stand Tier3

There are definately some destined for EMA as the engineer doing MON line work is (or was, i've not been on site for just over a week) a BHX engineer lodging at Thistle Hotel on-site "until the BMI engineers that have been hired are trained to work on the Monarch fleet"

The airport's name!

The last few posts around this subject prove pretty conclusively that there is too much petty localism in the East Midlands!

As a Brummie by birth I have no axe to grind.

We had a windy night on Thursday last week and a couple of incoming were diverted - one I know went into BHX. FR used their spare aircraft for the evening KRK departure. Anyone have info on any more?

Monarch

Not sure if it has been reported but the Monarch Malaga on a Tuesday next summer has now been taken off sale to make way for the new Malta service.

flybe - Jersey times seem to have changed to 11.10 dep Monday - Friday and back at 17.50.

However the Amsterdam still leaves early afternoon and appears to be an East Mids based aircraft still.

I assume the Jersey changed due to Manchester - Jersey moving to the 175 whereas the Q400 switched in Jersey with the Southampton aircraft, which were both Q400's.

None of the other destinations such as EDI, GLA or BHD have changed such as operating from the East Mids base but I assume something is up.

flybe's brand new 175 delivered Friday is starting ABZ-MAN-JER-MAN-ABZ-MAN. I thought EMA would have received the next 175 for CDG or failing that BHX-STR or HAJ.

EMA Greasy Spoon

About 15 years ago I used to go to East Midlands for my sim checks.

There used to be a really good greasy spoon near the sim centre. Does anybody know if it is still there or not?

FlyboyUK 11th Dec 2012 16:47

If you're referring to the runway cafe up by the BMI hangar, it was still going when I was last up that way

fmgc 11th Dec 2012 16:50

It wasn't much more than a portacabin.

Going up there tomorrow. First time in ages. Fancy a good fry up.

almost professional 11th Dec 2012 17:43

Runway cafe still there, still good eats, though has just changed hands - won't stop us going after nights tho!

fmgc 12th Dec 2012 21:48

Had a very good fry up at the Runway Cafe this morning, thanks guys.

Sonic Bam 13th Dec 2012 19:28
