I've seen this on another thread on this site and is now popping up in other places.
But seriously, A startup, in the current economic mess, from Cardiff of all places, using an ageing old tristar?? There's more chance of Baby going daily to Sydney. On another note. I personally like the new look. It seperates Cardiff from the other UK airports and hopefully will provide a better perspective as Wales not just being "the bit that sticks out of England"! I just hope the idea behind it all is a success and its the start of things to come. The website looks good, even though its the same as Luton's with different colours and airport name. But with all the hype of taking "international" from the title, you'd think they would make sure they completely remove it from the website and not leave it in the title bar. |
HI,
In the Questions section of this site, adverts for crew on job sites have been seen also. Regards PT |
where are these websites
|
Although it is a smart new website, its more flights and destinations we want! The dropping of the 'international' is timely bearing in mind you cant fly to any other continent than Europe.
The summer timetable for 09 is probably the quietest for years - really poor and nothing new other than AYT. Ive given up on the place other than my twice annual 'bucket and spade' hols.Doing all my city breaks and business over the bridge! Tried TCX for the first time this winter as an alternative to TOM - on the whole ok except for a duff aircraft on the outbound - toliet at the front u/s and so was the inflight entertainment!!..and this was half term - kids not impressed.Inbound made up for it - all working on the return flight. I hope they expand at CWL to give us more choice. |
Tarting up the website and terminal still does not help get punters flying from CWL. I am shocked how dead the place is!
I wonder if RYR had not done a runner to BRS at least 6 or more aircraft would now be based at CWL now  |
Perhaps CWL could become an extra apron for BRS! lol
The (former) management got a lot to answer for, turning RYR away. They may not be the most reputable locost but at least it would have given us welsh punters some choice to destinations other than usual PMI and AGP etc |
Is there any management over there, hearing rumblings that Thomson may be leaving within a couple of years if things dont improve, mind you that was from the same source that was telling us about the UK-US flights will be from only five uk airports in the future !!
|
No way will Thomson leave Cardiff - they have invested far too much in local distribution plus the fact that load factors and yields ex CWL have always been excellent - especially in summer.
The new FC led management of Thomson will take a few years to fully understand the potential of CWL given their historical familiarity with BRS but they will soon learn to apprciate the ecomoics of both airports are reinstate growth ex CWL (when the slump is over). BRS will then be at far more risk given the volumes on loco traffic from there |
To counteract that rumour, theres talk that TOM are planning more expansion in 2010 with possible return to long haul destinations. I'm sure its best to wait and see for the summer schedule to be released.
As for the UK-US airport rumour, this did do the rounds on the day in question. But i very much doubt it will ever happen. As for the TCX aircraft, was there a reason given as to why the forward toilet was U/S? Could it have been made U/S en route rather than before departure? I have in the past heard of aircraft being delayed due to the forward toilet being U/S and needing fixing. Passengers do tend to not listen or read instructions with regards to what can be placed down them! Also I personally would rather get to my destination on time than wait for the IFE to be fixed for a 3-4 hour flight. I'm sure TCX is not the only airline in the world to have IFE probs. (TOM's new long haul IFE system was a nightmare, BA currently has a thread on another forum about their 747's) I'd hardly call it a duff aircraft if it got you there safely and on time. |
TOM -CWL to ALC ...
We heard that this mornings (Tues) TOM to ALC had to return to CWL after a pax suffered some sort of emergency med problem. Is this correct and regarding the a/c, was it able to land immediately ie fully laden and fuelled, or, in such a situation, would it need to dump fuel even assuming that the a/c was well within it's range ?

Welsh Bobby
the former management that you refer to so disparagingly, had a difficult call to make. what would you have done? sold your soul to mr O'L for two pound pdp, or held the yields and protected the core business such as WW, TOM, etc?? come on, think about it and engage that grey matter my dear boy... |
yes its true returned unloaded passenger then took off at 9 30 . about the fuel dont really know:ok:
|
There is a detached air of reality about some of this thread...
We are in the biggest downturn the world has seen for 75 years and some folk still think airlines should be up-sizing. Passengers aren't flying, crew are being made redundant, revenues are shrinking rapidly, airlines are losing multiple millions and still the call for unsustainable routes... One can only imagine the carnage if fuel was still $147/barrel... Perhaps if the airport waived all its fees, offered its fuel for free and subsidised every unsold seat we'd have Nice, Lyon, Rome, Milan, Venice on the schedule... |

Looks like Thomson / First Choice have withdrawn the weekly flight from Cardiff and Bristol to Funchal. Appears the last flight departs late April. Has this been confirmed? The new FC led management of Thomson will take a few years to fully understand the potential of CWL given their historical familiarity with BRS but they will soon learn to apprciate the ecomoics of both airports are reinstate growth ex CWL (when the slump is over). BRS will then be at far more risk given the volumes on loco traffic from there The weekly TOM flights from EXT and CWL (also on Mondays, both of which are of much more recent origin than the BRS flight) continued through the current winter albeit the BRS flight carried more passengers than the other two routes to Funchal until it was axed in October last. Of course, this may have been because the BRS flight used a larger aircraft (B 757). Linking this to cym's point (second quote above), BRS does have a scheduled service to Funchal (easyJet) whereas CWL and EXT don't. Perhaps CWL could become an extra apron for BRS! lol The Great and the Good of Devon objected to their airport being controlled by the Bristol owners, the EU and OFT became involved over possible competition issues and the bid was withdrawn. Interesting thought - BRS and CWL in common ownership. |
FNC
FNC at BRS is now covered a few times a week by EZY, thats my guess as to why FCA/TOM have dropped it from over here, it tends to be a niche market for Madeira and the TUI group have companies such as Sovereign which fit the fold for Madeira, who are able to book pax with EZY flights and give them the greater flexibility, thus freeing up a rotation for a flight that they can make higher yields on such as SSH which the BRS 757 does on Mondays through winter now instead of the FNC.
My guess would be same situation for CWL? EXT is a 320 base so will prob keep its FNC route I would guess, meaning that there is still another option other than EZY left for SW/West folks. And was there not another airline operating FNC from CWL last year? or am i going crazy? If there was then no reason TUI group wouldnt buy seats on it. |

Jamesc909
We already knew this! As previously posted it just epitomises CWLs demise and TOM's inconsistency. Although the 2x longhaul from BRS are via another UK airport. One would like to think that if TOM could have filled the 767 locally then it could have operated direct from CWL? Fingers x'd for S10 and TOM seesawing back to CWL! |
Sorry whats a W pattern:confused:
Thanks PT |
