Improvements

Nice to see the flower beds under the posts being cultivated and turned into a lavender delight, with natural limestone and wood chips. Looks really smart.:ok:

Good news for Cardiff, Capacity increase on the Flybe EDI and NCL routes within a month where the flights will be operated on the DH8 instead of the EM4.

Talking to a senior member of staff from Flybe today and they seem to be more than happy with how the routes are doing. Hopefully a strong winter and new routes announced for S09.

iflycwl 11th Jul 2008 19:14

It would be good if Flybe started routes to France - Bordeaux, Bergerac or La Rochelle like they have done from other UK airports. Good on Flybe !!!

Watch out the 22nd & 28th, it is the return of the Loudes flights. Servisair are handling x3 Jet Trans or Romania MD82s on both dates - should be fun & chaos. WCHR express as it is Pilgrimage flights.

Also heard that the Royal Mint coin run re-starts next week with a flight to Malawi - nothing in FIDs yet though but have heard Servisair have been asked to handle a DC10 freighter.

Talking of nutty names: if anything needs to be changed, it's the moniker of the airport's website.

Clearly the management of the time were too slow out of the traps to snaffle anything meaningful with Cardiff Wales/Cardiff International/Cardiff Airport in it at the time, but what about them trying to buy one of the new registrations when they're issued?

cwl.aero? cwlfly.com? Are these the most non-descriptive website addresses in the entire world?!

Irish Independent today:

Some of the planes taken out of Dublin and Stansted will be redeployed to other routes, including a new UK base also to be announced tomorrow, chief executive Michael O'Leary said yesterday.

Ryanair feels oil price pain as planes pulled - Irish, Business - Independent.ie

Is this the rumoured CWL base?

Fr & Kl

Let's keep fingers crossed re Ryanair. Boy, do we need this.

KL last night - Hour and a half late, better late than never, 20/30 pax only though ? Never seen as quiet as this even at this time of year - anyone have a reason? Prices, reliability affecting take-up?

MUFC_fan 17th Jul 2008 06:24

My guesses in order:

1. MAN
2. CWL
3. NCL
4. LBA
5. BLK

The last one is from the heart and not the head!:ok:

mustrum_ridcully 17th Jul 2008 08:24

I'm still not convinced that Ryanair will move back to CWL - unless CWL are now able to offer a far more attractive package. I really want them to, but I'll believe it when I see it. Maybe a name change is in order Bristol (Cardiff)* airport anyone? ;)

What was going on with KLM using a WDL(?) BAe 146 on Monday, Fokkers broken down again?

* Shuttle bus service is available between Cardiff and Bristol ;)

would love it to be cwl but i dont think it will airlines seem to avoid cwl i think it will be man or ncl

mathers_wales_uk 17th Jul 2008 09:39

Its the time of year again when the KLM fleet start playing up, the WDL a/c was planned to do flights for two or three days for KLM into various stations so im guessing two or 3 a/c down somewhere.

There has also been problems with a/c that they do manage to send into Cardiff with the forward hold being U/S and that a full flight of bags having to try an be fitted in an area which can only fit on average 45 bags at a push (meaning bags are being left at AMS and CWL).

However i remeber that following last years trouble with a/c a month later it was the problem with the crewing.

Reliability with KLM at the moment are really low but i have to admit that there hasn't been a cencellation at all this week. (YET).

No new base for Ryanair

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Ryanair press office says it's not announcing any new UK base.

It's strange when Mo'L as quoted saying in the irish press that he was going to make annoucement today and then FRs press office are saying the opposite, unless of course their press office is saying nothing until there has been an official press release. Of course, Mr O'L could have been misquoted. we'll know for sure soon enough

iflycwl 18th Jul 2008 14:05

These Ryan Air rumours have been circulating for quite some time now at CWL, I hope they do bear fruit but the management at CWL just seem to sit back and let airlines opt for BRS all the time.

Surely they have to see this ????? Early morning at BRS, the terminal is jam packed and the ramp area is virtualy full with EZY, FR, DP, SN, WOW - cross the bridge and at CWL it is a complete contrast.

CWL is the Capital of Wales and deserves routes & airlines to promote this fact !!

By the way the freight flight yesterday to Lilongwe (Malawi) via Tripoli (Libya) was operated by a DC8 and not the DC10 - 30 tonnes of currency from the Royal Mint for the Government of Malawi.

Lets hope there are more of these flights - Islandsflug / Air France was the last carrier doing similar with A300's a few years back. If we cant gain the passenger airlines over BRS surely they can expand with freight / cargo traffic.

boyyo 18th Jul 2008 15:52

Do anyone know who the gentleman was, walking around the airport with the airport duty managers?
He had a camera and was looking at the terminal and the stands, pointing out holes in the wall????

30 tonnes of currency from the Royal Mint for the Government of Malawi.

Bloody hell!! i have no idea how much 30 tonnes of Malawi currency is worth, but it sounds a lot!! in a DC-8, its like sending Gordon Brown (or Kinnock) to the states in a C152........................

Bristol based Taffy 18th Jul 2008 16:15

DC-8

Ah the good old days!!!:ok:

Bet it rattled a few expensive window panes on departure. :E :E

WATABENCH 18th Jul 2008 22:30

787 could be coming to CWL, in a recent press release from First Choice holidays, Tim Willamsom of First Choice holidays has said it could open up new routes quickly including Bristol - Cancun(already a route on 767 via GLA) and Cardiff - Florida, so fingers crossed it looks as though both BRS and CWL are still in the TUI travel longhaul plans.

pipertommy 19th Jul 2008 20:24

Anyone know why the Air Wales hangar on the southside was open today? Looked like work was taking place.
