Lack of regional flights from LTN & STN
 

It would seem to me that there is an opportunity for regional flights from LTN & STN to places like MAN, MME, LPL, NCL, LBA and other Northern destinations.

I would suppose that the argument would be that the driving is the main competition but I would have thought that there would still be enough of a market for small aeroplanes for somebody like FlyBe.

I 'spose that somebody cleverer than me has already thought of it and subsequently done the maths to find out that is wont work.

STN certainly serves MAN already.

It's not worth putting an aircraft on a route which takes less than 3 1/2 hours to drive, unless there are specific connections to catch.

By the time you've checked in, taxiied, flown 30-40 minutes, taxiied and waited for any bags, you could have got there in a car for cheaper.

Plus, how much space does LTN have to accommodate regional flights?

Oh go on, SOMEONE start a STN-ABZ flight.

The problem here is the lack of interlining at these airports. Neither EZ nor FR accept any through-check pax or bags (neither does AB unless it's one of their own on designated routes). So: not only do you take your chances with a missed connection (and MoL certainly won't write you refund cheque), you also have to allow for sufficent time to collect bags, go to departures, check in, security, etc..... all in, might as well walk, probably quicker ;)

There is certainly a STN - NCL service operating. 5 x daily by Easyjet. A LTN - NCL service did operate for a short period a few years ago, operator...Debonair. A replacement service is now overdue as LTN although I can't see Easyjet rushing to compete against itself.
