Brussels Airlines

Next week SNBA and Virgin Express will announce their new name after merging earlier this year. One of the planes has been repainted at QAPS in AMS. Anybody had a glimpse at the new name or colours?:oh:

chabu 4th Nov 2006 11:55

I drove by the deco-bay yesterday evening and it looks like the tail remains the same color (dark) blue, the fuselage is lighter colored, blue-ish.
No info on titles, couldn't see that.
Expect roll-out tomorrow, as i understand pressentation is on monday.
Aircraft is OO-SSG, A319.
Bye, Chris.

Brussels Airlines is born

Five years to the day after SABENA was declared bankrupt, the new name of the merged SN Brussels Airlines and Virgin Express was announced: it will be Brussels Airlines.

While sales will begin tomorrow, the new livery will only be seen on March 25th, 2007. Apparently, a red "B" will feature on the tail, made of numerous dots. The new CEO (Philippe Vander Putten) summarised the situation by saying: "The new name perfectly summarises the mission of the airline: link the capital of Europe and its airoport to more than 50 European destinations while offering a number of intercontinental routes."

I guess the IATA code will remain SN (?). How about the call sign... "betail" ?

To be honest, no. He just wants to make a good impression because he's the new Chief Executive. The name does say "An Airline flying from Brussels.

Any chance of a flight from Cork, Ireland to Brussels? What are the odds?

Confused???

Im a bit confused, does the new SN have esentially 4 different products in the short/medium haul sector then? As far as I can tell from their website there are the following options:
b.light, basic lo-co service.
b.flex, full service economy.
Then however they mention:"Moscow, Helsinki and Tel Aviv, with traditional Economy and Business cabins on every flight." are these operated by the 319s or what?

Also long term whats happening with the fleet? I know the 319s fit well with the 330s, but to have a fleet of 737s and Avros as well? Are they planning to keep all three types in the long term, or will they simplify with perhaps 170/190s for short haul, the 319s for medium haul and the 330s for Africa?

As for a Cork flight, I would dearly love to see them back here, and perhaps the possibiity for connections to Dubai(Abu Dhabi),Toronto and Africa could be exploited as well as the city break and business travel. Copuld work quite well actually! fingers crossed!:O

...erm... not meaning to state the b****ing obvious but it IS an "airline flying from Brussels"!!

I had the opportunity to be at the launch on Tuesday where the newly painted aircraft was rolled out (note it is NOT in hiding! It flew to LGW yesterday!). The 'b' on the tail represents both Belgium and Brussels, however, Brussels is perceived to be more important on the world radar than Belgium given it's political heritage and that's why the name was chosen. The red inthe scheme is an allusion to the VEX heritage, while the blue reminds us of the old SN Brussels. Thankfully, the 'link' with the defunct Belgiun carrier is finally severed.

Good luck brussels airlines....

To clarify:
All european destinations will be operated under new concept (b.flex/lite) except the destinations you mention, MOW, TLV & HEL which due to their flight time/business demographic will keep the traditional cabin structure. There is no need to allocate particular aircraft to these rotations as all cabins have moveable/removeable curtains.

Fleet will operate essentially as-is till 2010 when leases are up on all aircraft. Incredibly good lease options on Avro/Airbus fleets are too good to review till then.

FYI 4th A330 or similar being sourced for longhaul with immediate effect.

Cork: Tried as summer destination but yeild incredibly low. Unprofitable to continue.

Hope that helps...

OK, now I understand! I really like the concept though, kind of a mix between the two former products. Should do well! Pity about Cork(although I will say the amount of advertising was nil, I doubt most people knew it existed!)

Thanks for that!

Just as a matter of interest, does CCQ permit jumping from A319 to A330 and vice versa in one roster period?

Not enough balls

SN Brussels Airlines, soon to be rebranded as Brussels Airlines, has hit a snag. Their new logo consists of a stylised ‘b’ on the tail made up of orange balls representing runway or approach lights.

Thirteen of them

Apparently this has not gone down well ‘in the US and Italy’ where superstitious pax will be put off. So they are going to have to re-rebrand, with an extra ball.

Luckily only one aircraft has been painted so far.

Mr @ Spotty M 21st Dec 2006 16:29

At least one has already been painted with 14 balls.:ok:

Brussels Airlines.

Thursday 5 April 2007

The Belgian airline company Brussels Airlines left 200 passengers to fend for themselves after their flight between Banjul (Gambia), Dakar (Senegal) and Zaventem was cancelled on Wednesday night.
Flight SN 236 was due to take off at 10.50 pm but at 9.00 pm. The passengers were informed that the flight was delayed by 90 minutes.
Shortly after midnight (local time) the passengers were told that the aircraft was faulty and that it would take at least a day to repair. The 200 economy-class passengers were ordered to wait until further notice.
This triggered a heated discussion, during which the representative of Brussels Airlines suddenly ran off, leaving the passengers to their fate. His employees told the passengers to find themselves a hotel in Dakar. They were also told that Brussels Airlines might possibly pay back the hotel expenses.

Not a very good start is it:eek:
