No, I was told off for taking pictures a while ago at LDY - told I had to seek permission from the management for taking pictures....

Pictures

I do not know what the policy is but at BHX yesterday a policeman was happily taking pictures of a stag do for the lads with their camera in the check in hall.

Cyprus - Summer 16

On a more positive note, Thomson will be launching flights to Paphos, Cyprus next summer from Norwich.

NickBarnes 20th Apr 2015 20:39

I was told off at Stansted once, it was ridiculous!

Good news on the Cyprus route another one to add to the list, looking very good thomson's destinations now:ok:

tunisa flights

any reason why Thomas cook have cancelled Tunisa flights from Norwich on the Fridays which was planned to operate

LTNman 21st Apr 2015 17:19

Someone had a word in my ear at Luton once at the same time as the TV series Luton Airport was being shown. I guess this guy now works at Norwich. What a clown

Tunisia flights

Thomas Cook have not cancelled all their flights to Tunisia from Norwich, they are just operating a shorter season. Thomson have also cut back on the number of flights they will be operating to Tunisia from Norwich this summer. Maybe the attacks in Tunis earlier in the year have had a knock on effect on bookings??

do you mean why they have cut the current operating run to May 22nd - August 21st?

Big reasons for this have been a reported downturn in people wanting to travel to Tunisia following recent events etc

Also Thomson operate it from NWI on Wednesdays and also have a much bigger presence, but even they are operating for a shorter length this year, only until 24th September compared to late October last year :)

How have the loads been on the first few Cardiff flights? I can't imagine it would be too well patronised?

NWI-CWL

Just two seats sold for the Anglesey to Norwich flight, but flights to Cardiff are booming from North Wales - Wales Online

A perusal of the linked newspaper report shows a reasonable start on the flights between Norwich and Cardiff. The headline refers to those travelling all the way between Anglesey and Norwich which aren't great in terms of numbers - to put it mildly.

One of the people who has booked to do VLY-NWI is meeee :P Nice to be in a very exclusive club apparently :)

Thomson Summer 16

Thomson has released Summer 16 routes are now,

Palma Mallorca (3x weekly), Corfu, Ibiza, Tunisia Enfidha, Dalaman, Paphos, Tenerife South, Menorca, Malta

All once a week apart from Palma Mallorca, to be operated by based Germania aircraft for 3rd year running, (except Malta)

Good news they all return along with the new one of Paphos!

Cromerpaul 18th May 2015 20:34

Good news that Cyprus is returning to Norwich destinations for 2016.
Is it true that Thomson want to fly more flights from Norwich but have been turned down by the Council?

Also does anyone know if Norwich is a particularly difficult place to land and does it have a higher number of go-around so as a result?

NickBarnes 19th May 2015 09:30

I can't believe the council has much say as it is 80% owned be Rigby group now a days, so would almost certainly say that's untrue. It is true however that Thomson are now running a very successful operation during the summer (flights are close if not full across all routes) with the based Germania aircraft that returns in 2016 once again, and there is further scope for additional flights and destinations in the future. Winter also see's slight growth with Thomson adding the second weekly flight to Tenerife

I have flown into the airport as a pilot, and it isn't really a difficult airport to land at, go around's don't happen that often, Runway 27 which is the most commonly used runway due to prevailing winds and also it has an ILS approach, altough on the other end runway 09 is a NDB/DME :)

Cromerpaul 19th May 2015 17:01

Thanks for the prompt reply. The rumour mill has it that the council will not allow too many more flights due to noise which is a shame. As you say most flights are well subscribed and Germania offer an efficient service on Thomsons behalf.

Re the runway, again most people I've spoken to have experienced go arounds there so was curious hence the question.
Appreciate your reply though thanks

wings folded 20th May 2015 17:33

In 161 approaches to NWI as passenger on scheduled flights, and I can't just find at the moment how many approaches in the driving seat on light aircraft, the only go arounds I have ever done or been involved with were to satisfy the training syllabus for the PPL.

It's a pretty easy airport. No terrain to speak of (East Anglia), not too much competition for runway space, and runway orientation not too badly aligned for the usual winds. Only snag can be a sea fret which rolls in at short notice bringing low RVRs.

Cromerpaul 20th May 2015 17:43

Thank you wingsfolded for your input.. We must be unlucky/lucky in our experiences. (I quite enjoyed it!)

no slots 21st May 2015 16:58

Go arounds other than training are very rare at Norwich. I've seen 3 in 8 years.one of which was because someone wouldn't come out of the toilet!

Links Air

The daily flights from Cardiff to Norwich were extremely short lived. The loads on the flights were not that great to be fair.

NickBarnes 10th Jun 2015 22:02

yes very poor loads, best decision was to remove them as they were clearly never going to make any money, was tried years ago and failed, Cardiff just won't work from NWI, and this should be the last we ever see of it!
