well FR's winter timetable is not good news for PIK..

watch, you're not allowed to suggest any doom or gloom at PIK, the spotters will be after you like a shot ;)

well FR's winter timetable is not good news for PIK..
In what sense? Last two years have been only 38 and 41 flights per week. Is it worse or better?

FRatSTN 10th Jul 2013 22:30

I made last winter 45 flights a week, but I could be wrong. I too don't see what's so disastrous about the coming winter's schedule. It too has 45 departures in the week although the Rzeszow route is not yet on sale, so in theory it should even be slightly busier this winter compared to last winter. This is it below as it stands (I highly suspect times or even days of operation could change at this stage).

1. I did not say in anyway it was a disaster...its just not good news.

2. its not good news, no significant growth or indeed likely to be any growth , no new routes and GLA share of the passengers on the routes likely to increase..

Hopefully things will change for the better when the airport is eventually sold and Infratil leaves Prestwick.

Could Infratil actually manage to organise a piss up in a brewery? :ugh:

Perhaps because no one wants to buy it ...

When the price is right ... someone will buy it ...

Council`s fly in to airport`s rescue.......

Today`s Ayrshire Post....

an article on how the 3 Ayrshire Council`s propose to rescue Prestwick Airport......Initially injecting £6 Million for improvements and assisting with the onward sale of the facility from Infratil. Can`t find anything on-line but it`s in the Post! The councils at least will do a better job of selling Airport on, than perhaps Infratil will, or not as the case has been thus far.

A move in the right direction at last.

Hey to the poster who was trying to put negative spin on Pik's number of flights. I wish Ryanair would come to DSA. And give us similar routes.
If your reading Mol Il fly every day there n back if you chuck in a snack for a week. Publicity stunt lol.
Prove at least one Passenger wants to fly to Dublin.
And yes its said tounge in cheek though if in some unlikely event he did the usual random gimic id stick to my word ;).
But seriously 45 flights a week in Winter from one airline in a shabby airport albiet well connected is great.
Do you guys get Thomson or Tcx . Who else flies there?. Ive often seen large cargo jumbos land on fr24.
Hey how about Pik Dsa. Ryanair Could claim the crown the first DSA domestic flight to Central scotland a hub interms of The short trip to Glasgow or Edinbugh and thus Transatlantic and Middle East links.
Plus Pik gains its first locost link to Yorkshire, Ryanair could probably fill seats on it tourist traffic both ways. Dsa not far from mainline trains to york and leeds.
Shuttle bus to Frenchgate interchange and Yorkshire is your oyster.
Ditto Ayrshire and Arran. Glssgow 2014. Edinbugh and the imho stagrringly spectacular Edinburgh Hogmany and fireworks.
I lived in callander befoe here and despite being a Yorkshireman Scotland is so much better than England at what it achieves, Generally fantastic folk. And the best side of the Border. But Dsa is close again for much of yorkshire. The peak district.
Anyway sorry for the long post but you have a great selection.of destinations. Mol delivers folk safley generally on time and cheap.
I kinda like his charecter
Stands up for what he believes in and does it. Right or wrong but without him Pik would be closed or at base a cargo field. Be great full Ryanair deserve your support they are giving you flights and jobs.
They dont need to spruce up the airport. Thats imho the local authorities job as I believe since the airport is a public service the council mudy contribute.
But keep up the good work MOL.
But the bottom line is you have got routes. And plenty.
You will get more.

Developments?

Some interesting rumours going around PIK at present. As already posted it appears that the three local Ayrshire councils are to invest £6m into the airfield but it appears there is some confusion as to how this is to spent. If you read the local Ayrshire Post and The Daily Record then it reads that the councils are buying the airport and then leasing it back. But to whom? Infratil? A new operator? Not sure I would be keen leasing it back to Infratil who are trying to sell and at present putting little investment into the airport.

There is also talk of a new Museum to be created at PIK and it has been suggested that this may be based at the hangers at HMS Gannet as they are due to pull out in 2016. However it seems that there are plans by the Navy to base 6 Merlins out of Gannet for anti-submarine activities. Hence the present Gannet site would be sustained and in fact they may need to open up 'green site' again. The new Air Sea Rescue helicopters will be based in a new hanger on the south side.

Also with passenger throughput up again this July against July 2012 there is less tumbleweed blowing about than some people would have us believe.

PIK3141 1st Sep 2013 18:25

The Ayrshire post doesn't say all that. It says ' 3 local councils are planning a deal to purchase and lease back a number of assets at the transport hub' unquote, from the copy in front of me.
Don't think the Air Sea Rescue hangar will be South side. Museum in the Navy hangar is speculation. And I wonder if the Navy know they are basing 6 Merlins at PIK ? Maybe 2 for temporary duty as in recent years.
All sounds rather like PAMG's 'mound spotter' rumours ?

ScotsSLF 1st Sep 2013 18:51

Yes it would be good to get the actual facts as opposed to rumours. But at least there are rumours. It's been very quiet for a while and what's written in the Post and the Record can't really be taken as fact. This alleged Council 'asset purchase' and 'lease back' sounds strange and I would be interested to know exactly what is being proposed.
