james170969: CEO update says Arran are going, how many people need to reiterate this before you believe?

james170969 18th Feb 2010 09:16

Well why are they still accepting bookings for Prestwick in August?

Skipness One Echo 18th Feb 2010 12:28

Aer arran shifting cork service 2 glasgow in air lingus
It's a Donegal service not a Cork service, GLA-ORK is an addition that RE are adding on behalf of Aer Lingus.
It's not a major issue really. The current Aer Arran passenger numbers are really small beer and the announcement of the Ryanair hangar build and additional based aircraft balance any loss out. Given the closer relationship with Aer Lingus the consolidation at GLA was on the cards.

As far as revenue is concerned, I reckon the Panalpina service is a bigger loss. Why Stansted? It this Atlas Air driven or Panalipina driven? Having lost Polar and now the last scheduled Atlas Air, freight is taking a hit.

honest man 18th Feb 2010 12:39

I agree Skipness i cant get myself worked up about RE but Atlas is different especially as we are getting up to 4 tech stops a day just now as well the Panalpina flights

honest man 18th Feb 2010 12:41

Forgot to add just to prove PIK variety nice Mildenhall based KC135 in today on diversion

james170969 18th Feb 2010 14:47

I've just phoned Aer Arann's head office and they said that the Prestwick to Donegal service is definately not moving to Glasgow.

apron alpha 18th Feb 2010 15:57

James. give up on this one. aer arran going 2 glasgow. donegal flight stops 21st may from pik.

james170969 18th Feb 2010 16:42

I'll give up on this one when I see hard evidence that Aer Arann is actually moving the Donegal flight to Glasgow. You are free to phone the head office in Dublin - press option 4, the first three are recorded messages.

Skipness One Echo 18th Feb 2010 17:14

apron_alpha you did say it was Prestwick - Cork at first so people may be a little sceptical. Time will tell.

As an aside I remember when Donegal was still called Carrickfin and was operated by a Loganair SD360 from GLA. God I feel old.

apron alpha 18th Feb 2010 18:39

fair play skip, i got donegal and cork mixed up. yeh, time will tell on aer arran leaving. we can just leave it like that and we will see. anybody heard how long the tech stops will last? 3months, 6months, 14months, thats whats been floating around.

nivsy 18th Feb 2010 18:57

Apron Alpha, Thanxs for saying you will try and find out who is building the RYR hangar - thought my post was slightly lost because of the Aer Arran debate...appreciate it.

Nivsy

honest man 18th Feb 2010 19:47

I heard at least till end of the month for the tech stops but that was 3 weeks ago im sure its changed by now,the longer the better on a different subject a 4th LCF has entered service

honest man 21st Feb 2010 15:52

nivsy 21st Feb 2010 16:32

BAA Glasgow: Aer Arann brings Glasgow and Donegal closer together with new service

allanmack 23rd Feb 2010 13:58

So, Aer Arann are off to Glasgow's other airport. How many passenegers per annum are we talking here, 15,000 a year perhaps. This can be made up by just one FR return flight a week operating at a load factor of 80%. Not nice to lose any airline but PIK has been here before and will bounce back I'm sure. Anyway nice of BAA PR Department to recognise 'Glasgow Prestwick'. Bit of a gaff there if you ask me.

Well BAA cant deny that PIK is a Glasgow Airport. If they did that, they would have to say LHR and STN are not London Airports. Although Amanda McWhats her name has tried to get a pathetic wee dig in.

Amanda McMillan, Managing Director of Glasgow Airport, said: "...We are pleased to welcome Aer Arann to Glasgow's airport,
Over all, I think 2010 looks bright for Glasgow Prestwick. Going by announcements made at both airports, it looks like PIK will carry a far higher share of the Glasgow market this year.

Scottish Flyer 23rd Feb 2010 15:56

According to CAA statistics the total passengers on the Prestwick - Donegal route has been under 10,000 a year for the past few years (between 9000 & 10000), so the impact on passenger figures at Prestwick will be small.
