Snow today in the UK

Just sat here looking at the Met office website, wondering how the various airports around the UK are coping.(looks horrendous in Scotland)

No snow at Manchester yet, although snow teams appear to be ready.

Whats happening where you are ?

It's snowing.

I think Scotland looks nicer when covered in snow:)

Anyone got a prognosis for Glasgow for this evening, the TAF is a bit unhelpful. Got some family supposed to be flying in about 20:00z

BFS/BHD 12th Mar 2006 10:09

BFS took two CO diversions from EDI AND GLA this morning. Three in at one time. Would of been a sight to see.

I'm a passenger currently sitting in the BD lounge. They've just announced that the airport will reopen at noon.

Continental divs

I wondered where they had gone, I dont understand the logic of flying to an alternate that is the other side of the Irish Sea. Surely it would make more sense to stay on the mainland just in case the flight has to terminate there.

The front runs north south so the weather just to the west (ie Ireland) is significantly better.

the Glasgow short TAF

So I'm not sure it will be a long reopening.

Its been raining here since 4pm yesterday and only starting to clear now.

ContinentalC85 12th Mar 2006 11:00

BA has had to close off First Class section on several services today due to cabin crew shortages - GLA is currently closed and this is preventing a number of crew who live north of the border commuting to Heathrow

Brit2 12th Mar 2006 11:15

GLA update from announcements in the BD lounge: now the airport is due to open at 13:30, with flights at 14:30. (Which to me suggests that it's opening at 14:30, but what do I know...)

AlphaWhiskyRomeo 12th Mar 2006 11:35

A sprinking of snow in Manchester, but not sticking.

Seems strange that CO would not have diverted to MAN from GLA/EDI, being only 4 hours by road.

Unless they expect difficulties in getting a/c out of MAN later on, or due to crew/ops reasons.

LPL snow closed supposed to open about now, but not much chance if you ask me
