MURCIA - SAN JAVIER, SPAIN
Hello to all,
Just a quick question? Does anybody know if airlines like Easyjet or Flybe are to add new routes into MJV? In the last month only Jet2, that seems to become the owner of the airport, is launching more and more routes. thank you |
Thank you Glagaz.
I work at MJV airport as flight dispatcher, and had heard of the frequency increase, but amazingly the route is starting in less than a month and non of the handling agents (Iberia, Select Aviation, Servisair) has received a proposal to handle GSM flights. Any idea, who could be the winner when they request... |

It then goes 4 a week in May (Wednesday & Sunday added) and it then drops to 3 a week for Winter 2006/7. Although new to Monarch, for BHX it is no more than replacing the My Travellite service which ended in October 2005. Also Flybe have reduced their summer service from BHX to MJV. This will remain 3 per week as it is now (I think it was 5 per week last summer). However there will be 3 flights a week from Norwich by Flybe 733. It starts at the end of March at 2 a week and the third is added on 22/4/06. For those still awake, BHX averaged 115 per flight in January (per CAA stats) on the Flybe 733. Nice to see Norwich getting new flights but a shame it had to be at the expense of one of the two BHX based Flybe 733's. Peter |
Javier.MJV,
I will be taking advantage of the Monarch flight during april. Also I will be moving down to VillaMartin in the next few months and wanting to work at the airport. who is the best people to contact with regards to employment? I speak very basic Spanish. Regards Stu |
Hello UPS,
There are quite a few job opportunities at MJV by the moment, and for some of the you dont need to speak fluent spanish honestly. Jet2 has started autohandling quite recently, and up to now it was Servisair its passenger handling agent (check-in, boarding, ticket desk..) but, from 11th March they have their own check-in and ticket desk staff. The selection process finished a couple of weeks ago, but there may be still some vacancies. FR also does autohandling and they are always searching for ramp agents, or check-in, ticket desk staff. IB is another story, as you must log-in into IB web site, fill out a formular and a couple of times a year the call applicantes and carry out the selection progress. Hope this info may be usefull for you Cheers |

If talks between Humberside and Jet2 are successful, flights between there and Murcia are likely.

Any news about Flybe starting any new routes into MJV. Honestly it is the airline I like the most, and was a bit disappointed to see they have reduced the BHX from 5 to 3 a week, when actually last year average load was over 140 every single day, and it has been the only route out of BHX to Spain that has not have any cancellations throughout the summer (ALC flight cancelled on wednesdays and AGP on Tuesdays and Thursdays).
I would like to see BHD or MAN routes into MJV. Regards, |
Sorry I meant cancellations during the winter not summer.

I would like to see BHD or MAN routes into MJV. Regards, LEI & PMI was a shock but one of the 733's is about to be based at Norwich and I assume that Flybe might be eligible for subsidies on these routes . As I have said before, great for Norwich but a bit harsh on BHX unless yields were poor. Without working for the airline it is difficult to know how the yields were during summer 2005 but I monitored their site virtually every day looking for the family holiday and there were no bargains between July and mid September except for a few seats on the day the flights were released. This was the same for BMIBaby but they have maintained a similar schedule in 2006. I booked Palma with MyTravellite in 2005 and look what happened to them  Oltonpete |
Responding to your post Olon,
Loads on the BHXMJV route were always over 140 pax during summer 2005 and over 100pax during the winter, when ALC saw the WED flight cancelled and AGP had Tuesdays and Thursday. MJV route had always had higher loads as not so many operators offer flights to BHX in comparison to ALC. I can not understand why BE has kept its 5 flights a week to ALC (ZB and BMI offer daily flights) and has reduced the MJV frequency from 5 to 3 when VZ has wipped out ( it used to have daily frequencie), as well as WW (once a week), and only ZB has added 4 flights a week. I do believe that this coming summer witn 7 flights a week BE should have had even higher loads, than last summer when there were 13 per week. Anyway, I hope they notice, as BE flight to MJV have more than 100 bookings (even 4 months in advance) and 2007 gets 5 or more flights a week |
hi!

QUOTE] Jet2 operate MAN route year round. and start BFS very soon. As for these jobs, well Jet2 started their own handling last Sunday, but you need to be fluent in Spanish and English. Have a good summer, See you in MJV over Easter if I can get staff seats. JFP |
Dear Johnny,
Thanks for the info, even I already knew Jet2 operates MAN and will operate BHF from April this year. With regards to these two destinations, I pointed out, I would like to see them also operated by Flybe. Thank you |
JET2
Don't forget the North West's favourite airport
Murcia-Blackpool from April and the Jet2 747 going Blackpool-Palma. That's the callsign not the aircraft. |

And the BLK-PMI is the 748. Is that Boeing's proposed big one or the forerunner to the ATP?

hello
Any news on this matter? |
New routes/destinations-new airlines to MJV?
Hello,
Does anybody know if there are any other airlines (apart from the ones already operating) interested in flying to MJV? And among the ones flying, do you know if they plan new destinations? Expansion works are going on schedule and new terminal building will be finished by october. That means much more capacity (5 gates, 20 counters..) Thank you |
Javier, dont know about new carriers to MJV, but got to say the Monarch schedule from BHX is going very well. Loads extremely good.
MJV handling it well too |
I'm sorry to say that my experiences of using MJV have been very different to those of tangocharlie. Whilst I love the fact that there are palm trees on the walk from the aircraft parking stands to the arrivals hall, which includes a wait in the glorious Costa Calida sun, the departure lounge is an absolute shambles with a few vending machines, and one little cafe. Add to that a basic lack of seats, no room for passengers to queue which results in huge snakes around the lounge area, and the shambles in the check-in area (poor signage & organisation at the best of times), I'd say MJV has a little way to go before I'd say it can handle these new flights well.
It is a shame we've (WW) pulled out of MJV because the staff there were lovely and we seemed to have a loyal little following, but there wasn't market for two airlines on the EMAMJV route. |
BMI, take what you say. I was referring to MJV getting on time deps.
As a pap, ZTH was always pretty interesting with regards to space! |
Thank you tangocharlie.
I do know ZBīs loads are extremely well. I work as a dispatcher at the airport and have dispatched some of the BHX flights. Bhx is a really profitable route. Loads on MJVBHX flights operated by Flybe are extremelly good as well, no less than 130pax on a Y148 seater 737-300. I would really like to see other carriers such as Thomsonfly, Aer Lingusz and an increase of EZY or BE flights. With regards to airport facilities, I do know we are experiencing lots of problems, and now even more due to the expansion works, but by the end of October MJV will be offering a much better service and facilities will be dramatically improved. As for WW, it was really a shame to see them go, despite of EMA, the were offering MAN flights and could have added Cardiff or Tesside and I am really sure these destination would have got high loads. I do hope, they come back Regards, Javier |
Hi Javier,
There have been persistent rumours over the last couple of years that Ryanair are looking at setting up a base at Murcia. I would have thought that MJV would be a strong candidate for their second Spanish base, along with Valencia and maybe Seville. Have you heard anything to confirm this? Once the terminal expansion is complete, are there any runway capacity constraints that would prevent MJV from becoming a base? Do you think that MJV could attract enough outbound traffic (particularly Spanish people from the surrounding area) in order to justify routes to France, Italy, Germany etc, or would large inbound loads suffice? Thanks. |
GSM EDI-MJV
Could do with a duty free shop there too. |
Hi Anna,
I have also heard that rumours. But I can not confirm that again, although they have been becoming more and more persistent and frequent since the expansion works. Certainly some FR bosses have visited the airport recently, although I do not know what exactly for. When the second runway becomes fully operative and the terminal building extention is finished there will be 5 boarding gates, as well as 19 check-in counters and much more space for airlines offices (ops dep, ticket desk...). Thanks to this improvement I do believe some airlines (FR or LS) will based one/two aircrafts at MJV.As for demand from surrounding area, destinations such as Paris, Rome or some german cities would be really welcomed as there are many foreigners living in the area most of the year, as well as lots of spaniards, that study or emmigrated to those countries. The airline I would really like to set up a base at MJV is Flybe, as they, thanks to their Dash a/c could offer domestic flights within Spain to fill the lack of enough connections Murcia has (Mad 3 times daily, BCN twice a day and PMI three times a week). BE could continue offering their flights to SOU, EXT, BHX, NWi and probably other UK airports, and at the same time offer domestic routes using their DASH (really easy to fill) I hope this info answers all your questions Regards Javier |
Military Ops
Doesn't Murcia have restricted operating hours due to it also being a military airport?.
I was under the impression that it is only allowed to receive Commercial flights after 1pm-ish on Mon-Fri (Sat/Sun all day) except for a couple of weeks at the peak of the summer season. If this is still the case that would restrict any airline from using MJV as a base. |
Murcia is a militiary training airfield. Although another runway has been finished and terminal extensions being built - there is supposed to be a proper Murcia airport being built south of the city. If you are thinking of flying into MJV 3rd/4th June - forget it! What is billed as the largest and most spectacular airshow ever held in Spain will be taking place and all flights are being diverted to Alicante. :ok: :ok: :ok: Should be a good show. The Sparrows will be there:ok:
|
Im not sure why there is no GLA-MJV flights. Given the huge popularity for Southern Spain ( sometimes 5 flights a day or more to AGP or ALC) I cant see why a MJV route wouldnt work.
|
Dear GW76
FR already operates flights from GLA area, they have several flights a week. Anyway I agree with you. This year the scottish market has started to have a bigger presence at MJV (GSM out of EDI, as well as LS) I do believe GLA-MJV would work really well, too. But the main problem MJV has is that there are still many airlines that do not know it and think the airport is no more than a hut with a couple of counters and a boarding gate. Some of the also think they would never fill an aircraft because of an apparent lack of demand. Fingers crossed and hope to see more airlines looking at MJV as a destination Regards |
FR originallly flew from Glasgow Prestwick to MJV on a daily basis. After about a year of operations they cut it to 3 times per week, so obviously the loads/yields weren't good enough for a daily. Don't know if a GLA-MJV route would fare any better.

If there was a duty free at MJV would it be available to pax flying to EDI as both airports are within the European Union.
|
Sorry I was talking generally! You are quite right, duty free is not available within that artificial concept, the 'EU'( (:yuk: ) The pax can still stock up on non-DF stuff though, thereby depriving the families of Cabin Staff of their food and shelter.
Incidentally, the Canaries, though ruled by Spain, are outside the EU so are flights from the Spanish mainland classed as International? |
Any new routes, any new airlines to MJV?
Hello guys!!!
In about 1 monthīs time the new terminal building at MJV will be finalised and 19 check-in counters, 5 boarding gates, 2 more stands on the apron and a huge boarding lounge will be all ready for the current operating airlines and for many others, all ground staff at the airport would be eager to arrive and depart to/from MJV? Have you got any idea what companies may be gathering interest in MJV? I would really like to see WW coming from Cardiff, Birmingham (to start compatition with ZB and prove to BE how stupid their decisions are) or Manchester (competing with LS) or Thomsonfly from BOH, DSA,etc... On the other hand, GSM seem to keep their interest in MJV by adding ABZ. Their ticket desk is ran by Servisair and I may say the service is really poor (office is quite often close even if a flight is being checked in, xbag is hardly charged...) I work for another handling/ticketing company, quite new actually, and we are searching for new clients. Does anybody of you have or know an email address, we could use to get in contact with them? Thanks to all and all comments will be really appreciated Regards from the sunny MJV |
"Manchester (competing with LS)"
Why? ;) |
competition is always good on a route mainly if there are demand for two carriers
