BY to Denver

Been browsing through the skiing brochures for this winter and notice that one of the companies are operating a Thomsonfly charter twice weekly from Gatwick to Denver, Colorado. Anyone know if this is a 763 direct, or using someone elses a/c on their behalf.

Direct, non-stop, on BY equipment.

cheers ;)

If I remember correctly, Monarch used to do LGW-DEN for the skiiers a few years back, on the DC-10.

Well within reach of the B763 too though, about the same as a Vancouver run and shorter than a Cancun.

I did the LGW-DEN on the DC-10, same one that got the chop and has the nose in the Manchester viewing park. Great flights! Was wondering if the 763 would make the journey, but got the answer, thx.

Denver is well within range of London on a 763; American used them for quite a number of years on London to LAX and had no issues with them.

Denver is at 5,500 feet elevation but remember this is a winter charter series we are talking about. Wonder how practical it would be departing on a Colorado summer afternoon ?

Im sure BY did a flight here before back in the 90's. I remeber selling them when i worked in a high street travel agent.

I am booked with BY charter on 29/12 from Luton to Acapuclo, but we have a tech stop in Montreal :ugh: Any reason why we cannot do it non stop - based on the above info 763 can get to west coast non stop - just asking no critism

Probably something to do with the short runway at LTN :)

Acapulco is 300 miles further Great Circle than LA, and both Luton and Acapulco do not have the maximum-length runways of LHR and LAX. Also the charter-config 763 has about 120 more seats in it than the scheduled layout of American, as I am afraid you will discover. However it probably has more food and drink loaded at the start than American put on nowadays ;)

B757 range from MAN

What holiday hotspots can you reach in a 75 from MAN assumin ETOPS approved?

WHBM 20th Dec 2005 10:16

Furthest done from MAN on a 757 without a stop - probably Toronto.

And yes, in summer Ontario certainly is hot.

Certainly won't be any problems at the DEN end, or are you saying there might be difficulties reaching LGW?

DEN has one of the most advanced runway layouts in the world - currently 6, with room for 12.

"Runway 16R/34L - Denver's much publicised recent addition - is the longest commercial runway in North America. At 16,000ft long and 200ft wide, it is able to accommodate the new generation of massive planes, including the Airbus A380.

The sixth runway project was part of DIA's original master plan to provide a balanced airfield operation. This $166 million north / south runway allows larger airplanes and planes with heavier loads or longer trans-oceanic distances to safely take off and land in Denver's high-altitude environment. "

(from airport technology.com)

Still trying to work out how such a facility can be built for $166m, compared to the billions quoted for STN & BHX. I know there is a lot of prairie out there, but we are talking about 20x less cost.
