I think that in general DTV is doing well as a regional player and looking busier all the time. Don't grow too big though, I like you the way you are. Your bigger neighbour (NCL) to me , has become a joke. They think theyre MAN, but tell me, how the hell can you be MAN with 2 airbridges and a crappy terminal.
Trust me DTV, you may not have the choice NCL has, but your everything a good regional airport has and thers a lot of people I knw that appreciate that fact.

If he NCL terminal is crappy how do you describe the one at DTV with no airbridges. I agree NCL needs more airbridges and has its problems just like any airport but in general its very good, They must be doing something right judging by the pax numbers and destinations served.
However its nice to see DTV doing well with many more flights this year.

mmeteesside 13th Apr 2006 08:38

DTV are taking out some offices from the terminal (any ideas where they are moving to?) to extend the departure lounge. It will take 3 months apparently, seems like a good idea :D

And for last nights FA Cup match Monarch brought 2x A306 and 1x B752

The offices have moved to portacabins on the corner opposite the old entrance to the car park across from the TNT hanger.

DTVAirport 13th Apr 2006 10:20

So this work has already commenced? It wasn't announced? Must be a culture shock moving from a nice cosey office into a portacabin!

mmeteesside 13th Apr 2006 16:39

It was on the local Ceefax last night, thats where I got it from!

Anyone got any route rumours? Whatever happened to Eastern to Brussels??

There are 4 flights going out next week to Bucharest (1 being the team) Team+1 on Wednesday, with the other 2 on Thursday

mmeteesside 13th Apr 2006 18:37

Just noticed all fans flights go out to Bucharest on the Thursday morning, 2 coming back overnight, with the 3rd following on the Friday (1 night stop)

The 2nd day-return has 1 seat left :) They sell out quick, possibly add a 4th maybe!

The team should depart on the Wednesday returning sometime Friday!

DTV and CEEFAX

Talking of CEEFAX, the redesigned website takes you to the BBC TEES website with the 'old pages from CEEFAX' arrivals from one place, where as clicking on Flight Information in the sidebar menu takes you to the new DTV arrivals web page - odd!

Also, driving back up the A19 at the weekend, signs are still for "Teesside Airport" - anybody know what's happening on the row with the DoT about who pays??

MME in March saw 64,000ish pass through the doors compared to 65,000 the previous year.

This may sound a little on the down side but a few things have to be taken into account.

1. The mucking about of the Heathrow by bmi resulted in 5000 less passengers on the route.

2. The dropping of the Rome by ryanair which resulted in the loss of 7300 passengers. Why on earth they did this I can't understand.

3. The fact that Easter is in April this year.

Some plus points have been the 4500 on both the Gatwick and the Paris and the 25+% growth on the Aberdeen and 12% growth on the Dublin
The football charters in March have seen just over 6000 pass through as well. Another plus is the 50+% growth in the amount of air freight handled by the airport as well over the previous year. To cap this all the airport saw 17% more movements this march compared to last march.

All in all not to dissappointing and shows promise for the coming summer.

mmeteesside 15th Apr 2006 09:19

That doesn't sound disappointing at all, infact quite the opposite, considering Easter is in April this year! Should see an increase on the April pax numbers, quite how big I'm not sure.

Eastern certainly seem to be doing well with +25%, although it is due to the use of 4x J41 on the route I guess. Lets hope that the Bristol route hasn't dented their confidence, as they were on the verge of starting a Brussels route!

No LTE PMI on a Thursday night.
BH Air on a Monday evening still not confirmed.

Flyjet are operating a footie charter on Wednesday a.m. to BBU arriving back in the early hours of Friday morning. There's a rumour going around it may be operated by the 762 ;)
The team are going out with TCX on Wednesday morning also and TCX 757 & MYT 332 are operating on Thursday.

DTV - The portacabins are very nice. A vast improvement on their old offices which appear to be no longer !

dgutte 16th Apr 2006 15:52

As a side note, I was wondering just how many extra passengers MME has had due to the european exploits of the boro over the past 2 years?

Obviously many boro fans depart from it but there must have been a fair few arriving to support away teams.

mmeteesside 16th Apr 2006 17:04

Lets say quite a lot, I'll try to come back with a figure later on!

mmeteesside

mmeteesside 16th Apr 2006 17:36

I make it a total of 11794 (for the ones we have figures for) and the trip to Rome took around 3000 fans I believe, so there's another 6000 on the total (dep+arr) - Basel was about 1500 (so thats +3000), so it could well be into 30000 by the end of this season's run!!

Certainly a win win for the area!

mmeteesside 20th Apr 2006 09:11

Eastern are dropping the Bristol route, last day is Tuesday 2nd May, shame really but it was never going to work with EZY at NCL operating a highly successful route to BRS

Don't know whether they'll use the based aircraft to start another new route (BRU?) or if it's knocked their confidence

I BET Air Southwest start BRS-MME!
