Stansted - New York airline starts business!

The new airline, Maxjet has opened its website up for bookings. The airline will start on November 1st. The all business airline will offer one way fares of £599 from STN - JFK. The airline will soon offer twice daily flights with a 757.

Their website is full of information. They also have plans to open more US routes from Stansted in the future!

Edited to remove advertising link.

Good news for STN but I feel at that fare they are going to struggle unless it can prove to be a seemless service.

Not sure it will work but I really hope it does, as there is no way business class should be 10x economy fare.

They may also attract tourist pax who are willing to pay a bit extra for more legroom and a better service.

Excellent news to see this one finally ready to start! But if I'm not mistaken, am I right in saying that originally it was Maxjet who said they were going to operate low-cost flights between Stansted and Newark, then Eos who were going to do Business class-only between Stansted and JFK?

I wonder if Eos were unsuccessful in their proving flights, and so Maxjet have 'stolen' their philosophy while they have the chance. Anyone enlighten me?

An excellent Idea but STN???? As much as this airport is a good airport, its over crowded and not really suited to full service carriers anymore!

stansted_dan 20th Sep 2005 15:14

apaddyinuk, you say that but living in the area myself I can imagine there must be a lot of Biz-class passengers from Norwich, Cambridge etc, who would rather a drive down the M11 instead of halfway round the M25 to either LGW or LHR.

You're dead right! I was surprised to see the above post saying business only. They had quoted single trip of £130 IIRC.

Must have a look at the website. Did EOS capitulate then?

Yes,767 initially,to be followed by 752s. Ah well, will have to look elsewhere for the low cost then! I have to say not much chance with the current fuel prices.

I have to say im totally gutted this is an all business airline. They had previously advertised the Stansted - New York route as a low cost one for economy passengers. After checking the website all the time, to see fares starting from £599 each way was really annoying. I was hoping for cheap fares to the US. lol.

Well, at least Stansted has its New York route back!

If you look at the history of UK-JFK flights the regions are littered with memories of start - ups and promises of them. BHX and MAN have struggled to offer a competitive fare not just from the South East but against AMS and other European airports.

Don't forget Blue Fox who planned a 767 service in 2001. That is planned in the early part of 2001...

This offering (and it's various other non-start ups) have been debated at great length in various forums of PPRuNe. There are many imponderables and variables and no one can say if they will pull it off. There is certainly a market for such a service but can they get the market into their a/c in sufficient quantities before their cash reserves run out? I hope so as it would provide jobs and competition.

Before they were MaxJet, their name escapes me.....Were looking at low-cost from London to NY.

MAXJET - NAME CHANGE.

Maxjet = skylink as was.

johnwalton 22nd Sep 2005 16:18

£599 or $779 each way, depending on whether you book in dollars or pounds.

£599 = $1070
$779 = £440

Am I missing something here?
