Can Southampton survive the ERJ195?

Now that Embraer have certified the ERJ 190, which appears to need 2000+ metres to depart at max take-off weight, what of the ERJ195? Can someone make my day and prove that the ERJ 195 will get out of SOU in mid summer with a full PAX load to ALC/AGP or beyond.

Please no BS or speculation, show me that it will work! Then I only have to worry about where I am going to park!

here is a page on southampton airport data and it appears the runway is well short of 2000m!!!!

I have been told they have been 'number-crunching' the 195
for Southend to the Med., and that the figures seem to
work.

We shall see.

I think you might find that no one has that data as the aircraft is not certified yet!!

Well I reckon that SOU to anywhere in the MED in the 95 should be fine off the limited runway available. I doubt if Jim and the boys a EXT would buy a aircraft that could not take full pax to the Med ex SOU. They are a very professional mob and I wish them the best.

i beleive the post said number-crunching from SOUTHEND, not Southampton. Unless it was a typo!!

SOU = Southampton
SEN = Southend,
iirc

tilewood 20th Sep 2005 07:21

It was not a 'typo'. Flybe are stated to be interested
in developing Southend as their London/South East base.

This would include flights to the Med., that is where the 195
comes into the picture.

SEN has a slightly shorter useable runway length than SOU, hence my comments about the 'numbercrunching'

This has been covered loads of times. The flybe 195's will have uprated engines. This improves performance. Better performance, shorter strip.

I wish iI still lived in Southend as the old days were great. You could fly on your holidays and when you returned you were indoors in 30 minutes.

I hope FlyBe start flying.

The airport really does have a catchment area of more than 2 million people within 45 minutes.

Come on Jim you are missing a real Jewel in your crown as you are the only airline that has the equipment that can operate out of SEN.

If you can make money in SOU and NWI you will double it at SEN. I am sure that the airport operator will bite your hand off.
