ba low cost airline.
a good source has just told me that willie walsh wants a seperate low cost airline. to be called BA RET.it will use the aircraft at birmingham and some other bases(she wasnt sure where !) i find this hard to believe. any comments?

Qantas started Jetstar for the same reason. Compete with the LCC's and also use enterprise bargaining with LCC staff to lower the pay and conditions in the main line. All hopefully without diluting the value of the brand.
|
Apparently the new airline will be based at Stansted and will be called 'Go'.
|
A new name and paint job for Citiexpress perhaps?
|
I thought they had already gone the way of low cost no food on flights :{
|
This is already being discussed on the "Airlines, Airports & Routes" forum:
New "Low Cost" = BA Red!! |
It has yet to be seen how BACX or BA red will achieve low cost status with a mainly 50 seater fleet. Last time i checked almost all low cost operators had 737 and 319 fleets?
|
Heard a great one today.
"LCY flights will retain the Club Europe service as they have a high yield. Due to the London Olympics in 2012 BA want to take-over BACX's LCY operation, they will replace the RJ100s with the A318s" How much did I laugh? A lot. |
Railgun
Willie will deal with the 50 seaters the same way as he did at EI, I think! The Dashes have already had one stay of execution as it is. I expect BA to operate nothing smaller than A319 or B735 as soon as Willie can manage it, with Loganair and Sun Air handling anything smaller and BACX squeezed into oblivion. |
Alledgedly a 319 can operate into LCY, like to see it in reality though.
|
I guess time will tell as to if these bigger aircraft ever arrive. IIRC someone posted saying BA had only 2 or 3 A321's on order for the heathrow op so it does not look like they would be any of heathrows or gatwicks old 757's or 319's or 737's.

BA Blue
perhaps I should register the name now......but first I must check out the other blue sites first...... Bumz
|
Hansol - not 319. 318 is in certification process (1st flight completed) for steep approach. Apron mods also required as things are tight as they are with 146 and q400.
|
"LCY flights will retain the Club Europe service as they have a high yield." Or from the 3 coming back that evening? No... no... my mistake it must've come from the other 50 Euro Traveller passengers split between the 2 flights! |
Airbus are in the process of certifying a software mod to the A318 that will allow it to successfully complete an approach into LCY.
Whether this mod includes a flotation system as well is unknown, as on the water will be the only place they can park it! |
I here the apron is being extended with a link bridge for aircraft to cross the water being considered.
