bmi leeds-bergamo route

Can anyone let me know about a possible bmi charter route this winter between Leeds and Bergamo in Northern Italy.
Apparently Ryanair fly there from Stansted so the runway must be long enough. I guess that it would have to be an Embraer as the airbuses would be in Heathrow. Can it go that far?

hi

When jet2 first started operations they use to operate a daily scheduled service's between LBA - BGY with B737-300's

Anyway who is chartering these flights and what type of aircraft will be bmi be using??

Will be it one of the based Embrear 135/145's or the A319

Where have you find out about this charter??

Northern Italy is no problem for an ERJ ,bmi regional operate down to PISA & CORSICA.

I guess it must be a ski charter which if true and on an ERJ will be a first for bmi regional. I would be looking very carefully at the baggage allowance before i would book. Leeds already has big problems on the Innsbruck flight (F70) with an allowance of just 15KG plus a boot bag.

The last time i flew the route boot bags(about 10 of them) were pilled up in the R1 door area(Galley exit) i very nearly riased the matter with them, but my bag was one of them! and i was in an overwing exit seat. Daft looking back, touch of the "i'm alright Jack"

Rynair have a huge presence in Bergamo.
It sells as Milan. To be fair, it is not much further from the city than the terrible Malpensa airport and the road links are better and not as congested. Nice little airport.

I was talking to cabin crew in Heathrow and they mentioned it. We were about to leave for Milan which is why I guess it was brought up.

Taking the point of baggage restrictions sounds like an airbus would be more likely. But I can't really see how they could free anymore up with things the way they stand?

Would they not use a baby 73 for the route. At full charter rates it would be worthwhile positioning one across.

bmibabyfc 24th Aug 2005 12:44

when we first started baby ops at ema we used to fly the 737 into BGY (around 02/03), but that sadly stopped along with the other italian route pisa.

bmir will use an embraer for the charter if out of lba i would have thought, the baggage allowances are agreed with the charter dept and the charter company, but like prev posts it is normally only around 15kgs with a gbp5 charge per kilo for excess.

I think that the Italian routes from Nottingham EMA by bmibaby were launched at the wrong time, which might explain why they weren't quite as successful as was hoped.

MyTravelLite was just beginning Pisa up the road at BHX when we started our route, and Bergamo didn't have the best schedule for business passengers, and was notorious if I remember correctly for weather related delays.

Just flew into Bergamo on a weekend break last week; nice little airport, good road & transport links to both Bergamo & Milan and the most expensive cup of coffee on my trip to Italy!

used to operate from SOU into BGY using Dash 8 Q 400. Yes baggage was a problem every now and then - predominantly a ski charter operation. Huge runway - easy operation and pretty dispatchers ;)
only problem was understanding ATC!!
