Britain Airways

Any one know any more about this airline, who seem to be calling themsleves Britain Airways, according to the route map on page 5

Between existing operators and now Aer Arann getting in on the act, is Isle of Man-Liverpool not already massively overserved

Flightrider 17th Aug 2005 19:21

Have just read through the plan.

Whilst I admire their spirit, this is extremely unlikely to work and I think it is verging on comedy to expect such profits from the operation.

If you are to make J32s work, you need very high intensity if operations - ideally eight or ten short sectors a day - and with only two aircraft, they will have insufficient critical mass to justify the sales & marketing spend to promote the operation. I just don't see it.

Spartacan 17th Aug 2005 19:22

Sounds plausible . . .

BahrainLad 18th Aug 2005 00:21

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the CAA have something to say about 2 flight crew and no cabin crew!?

Flying Fokker 18th Aug 2005 01:11

Not really you have the likes of British Northwest in BLK operating a PA31 to IOM and Flykeen when they had the Emb110.

this is extremely unlikely to work
Well, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. Most great businesses have beaten the odds. Business is risky. Startups are usually riskier. Go for it guys.

I don't have the flight ops or route dev knowledge to know if the plan is credible, but if I take what I see as read, then it looks ok.

As the founder of three businesses which have each needed external funding I'd advise that a stickler for financial detail should go through the plan and clarify the use of some of the numbers which, in my humble view, are not 'grounded' enough.

By this I mean that there is everything from a misplaced comma (clearly a BIG deal in financial terms) to unqualified numbers (someone growing a business to £40m what? revenue, profit, market cap?) via possible errors where sub bullets and bullets appear to be contradicting each other.

Also, get the headline funding requirement and ROI in the Exec Summary! I hate to have to dig for these things when it is my primary concern. If it doesn't suit my investment profile then we'd be wasting each other's time.

Still, I think this is good enough to get through the door of any investors enthusiastic about aviation. Good luck chaps.

Shame they could only find a pitcure of a Let 410 for the front cover .......... ! :ugh:

Have read through the prospectus and have noted a few things that those involved may like to look into, these are only suggestions. I am no expert.

1. Why use routes that are already served ie Leeds-Isle of Man and the Newcastle-Southampton. The company will be going up against Eastern on both routes.

2. Use Durham Tees Valley instead of Newcastle and Leeds. This will bring better economies of scale and will face less competion yet still cover a large proportion of the catchment area that both Newcastle and Leeds cover. Of the areas covered by Newcastle and Leeds in the prospectus Durham Tees Valley covers the Wear, Durham, Darlington and North Yorkshire

3. The prospectus constantly referes to easjet, ryanair and jet2 as comparisons. This is a little odd considering that all three operate large aircraft in the 150-189 seat range, while (the airline) plans to operate smaller 19 seat aircraft. Would it not be better to make comparisons with Eastern Airways who operate similar aircraft are more likely to be direct competitors.

Just a few things that I thought I might share with you, like I said I am no expert but would like to think my suggestions are not all pie in the sky:)

Newcastle-Southampton. The company will be going up against Eastern on both routes.
Is it just me but it mentions nothing about Newcastle - Southampton? The line to me look like Newcastle - Liverpool?

onion 18th Aug 2005 16:35

NCLRULES yes it mentions Newcastle-Southampton, ok it's via Liverpool. Is that ok with you? :)
My point is there will be competion on some routes.

I cant make them fly at less than £1000 per hr in order to make any money - and pray to god you dont go tech - :} :} :}

Still iv'e known Terry for years and it could fly and i hope it does but on the UK side of things i think its time someone put the Beech 1900 on the UK reg - - mmmmm lovely easy PT-6 and 20kts faster

We did BEB - SYY in 13 minutes chock to chock a while back in a 1900 :8 :8 :8

Fried_Chicken 18th Aug 2005 19:11

Plenty of Be1900s in store around the place including some of the newer variants, not sure what the price difference is between a Be1900 & a J32?

Lease Rates

I read an article recently that said J31/32 were going out at about 20,000 USD/month on a airframe value of 400-500.000 USD. The same article quoted Beech1900 (especially the D's with half-life engines) trading at around 2M USD. So that would give a lease rate of 100,000 USD/Month? Seems a lot for 19 seats??

Under EASA rules now, there should be no reason why you cannot put a Beech 1900 on the UK register, as most of the CAA's power to impose their own view on life is drifting away (at long last). Still no doubt they would try and make it as difficult as possible.

ATP_Al 18th Aug 2005 22:00

It may be a financially very ambitious plan, however there is definately a market for short domestic flights between place hard to reach by rail/road. But I'm not sure that IOM-LPL is the best place to start though! And wouldn't Bournemouth be a better destination that Southampton? - no flybe/BACX, probably cheaper to operate from and lots of potential for connecting flights with Thomsonfly, Thomas Cook et al all moving in this summer.

Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Al

P.S. BahrainLad - You only need cabin crew above the magic number of 19 seats.

Cyrano 19th Aug 2005 18:16

Yak97: I think your figures for the B1900D are a bit off. Aircraft Value News from a few months back was quoting $20-40k per month for a 1900D (and $10-30k for a J32, by way of comparison).

Now if Beechcraft could just have made the plane *look* a bit more elegant... :)

Call Established 20th Aug 2005 05:56

So its.....

1 - A low cost model!
2 - Using J31/32!
3 - From COV probably one of the few places in the country from where you can drive to any pther part of the country and back in day due to its central location!
4 - A return after 10 months!
5 - Domestic routes!

Not one do put a downer on this one, but personally cannot see it working........Sorry to be negative!
