Travel City Direct
Hope someone can shed some light for me please.
Am waiting to fly to Orlando from Manchester on TCD and was due to go at 11.15am. Nobody seems to know what's happening and best news they can give us, is an update at 16.30!!!!!!!!! Nice start to the holiday!! |
Pay peanuts for a package holiday to a company that farms out it's flights to a TF carrier such as AAI and you should know that you are dealing with the very low end of the market.
Hope you paid by credit card or your insurance covers you for dirty that these companies can play on you. |
TCD
Exactly my thoughts. It's the first time we've used any cheap airline to travel the Atlantic and only did so because we are with friends who were not willing to pay the premium for quality.
How frustrating!! |
Hi Nordams.
Sorry to hear about you flight. This site has got a lot of information on recent TCD delays; http://www.wdisneyw.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=13 |
Travel City Direct
Is now owned by TF or a company within the group. regards. |
Travel City Direct Is now owned by TF or a company within the group I think you will find that Travel City Direct is not an airline but an independant travel agent who charter aircraft from Air Atlanta Icelandic (Icelandic aircraft carry the registration prefix TF). Part of the contract involves two or three aircraft painted in full TCD colours. |
I think you will find that TCD is now owned by the company that owns Air Atlanta(AAI) and Excel.

Before any more of you oh so well informed start shouting your mouths re: AAI, The aircraft operating the flight today was damaged by a ground vehicle whilst being loaded, that is the reason for the delay.

Waggon Rut had the right idea. Travelcitydirect.com was taken over by Avion Group about a month ago. Avion Group owns Air Atlanta, Air Atlanta Europe, Islandsflug, Excel Airways, xl.com, Travelcitydirect.com, and a seafreight shipping company with 22(?) ships and more on order. They are also reported to be taking a stake in Casino Express. No doubt they own other companies which I have not mentioned - including a maintenance company if I recall correctly. Their intention is to float Avion Group on the Icelandic Stock Exchange in due course; maybe as soon as Autumn this year. To the best of my knowledge there is no connection with Malmo Aviation. Is 'TF' their IATA code? Regards. |
The reason you were told you get more information at 1630 is because the airline is unable to give you an estimated time of departure. Im assuming that as it was struck by a ground vehicle it would involve quite a big repair which could take a number of hours. At 1630 u should be given a good ETD. They dont just tell because they dont want to as soon as they know you will know!!!!!

The first aircarft was damaged but what about the 2nd 747 that is currently tech in man? 1040 people needed to be hotaced to day as far away as birmingham and leeds so i was told by servisair. bad day for TCD then!!

I heard that any crew, of any airline, walking into the one of the hotels were this lot were billeted were booed by the massed disgruntled - and then couldn't get breakfast the next day because of the 400 person queue!
Glamorous life innit? |
Delays on a flight does not always mean bad quality. It often means that instead of compromising safety and ignoring technical issues, the flight is delayed. Delays are of no-ones interest (maybe the local hotel if any, or the competitor), and in this case it was apparently ground handling who damaged the aircraft?

There are some good prices around with VS and BA to MCO for next year at the moment (at least while their Sept promotions are running) - so, no reason not to steer clear of these operators.
