"I understand they're to operate GLA-Sharm this summer with the 737-800. Passenger wise it's an awful long way in the cabin of a 737!!!!"

Its TCX who fly to Sharm from GLA and MYT to Hurgada.

Back to the aforementioned DC-10---any source for this story?
Try the Direct Personnel International advert looking for DC10 crews based at GLA starting April for a one year contract :ok:

HZ123 3rd Mar 2005 08:34

We at BA Airtours used to fly 737-200 to Gambia with one stop. I would imagine that Eqypt on an 800 has to be considerably more social than the 200.

Found an ad on the net,but it says Europe,no specifics. Where did you see it?

Possibly not co-incidence that the CAA database shows G-BYDA as "potential change of ownership details".

LGWAlan 3rd Mar 2005 12:25

Caledonian - the YDF flights from LGW are only about 6 hours - so not that long really.

nef 3rd Mar 2005 13:21

If they're planning to operate a DC-10 from this April on long-haul they surely would need to have announced it and started selling seats a long time ago.

kestral1 3rd Mar 2005 13:38

its going to happen the ex mytravel DC-10-30 (G-BYDA) has been bought by Globespan. The ac did have a final check flight a couple of weeks ago. A mate who is a ex DC-10 skipper at mytravel has got the job as chief pilot. Spoke to him and he said that there were only going to be 5 lots of flight crew, to do Sfb flights from Gla.

webby1919 3rd Mar 2005 15:49

When are they going to start using them for flights?

That's great news for them, expanding rapidly. Is it an old plane?

How did you know this?

billyg 3rd Mar 2005 18:53

I believe that the lease of the DC10 wont now be happening! However the stories about the airline acquiring 736s for more short-haul routes appear to have some substance!

VIKING9 3rd Mar 2005 19:26

I heard that Mr Newnham had bought a DC10 for Globespans long haul work out of GLA/EDI until a suitable replacement (B787) is available......

DC-10s

Where did you find out about the DC-10s being bought by GSM?

Oshkosh George 4th Mar 2005 17:22

You were the one who first mentioned the DC-10,would you like to throw us another titbit?

I think you may know more.

subload 4th Mar 2005 21:45

It's got 3 engines and is very noisy and probably unreliable :p

Oshkosh George 5th Mar 2005 00:28

Oh,I'm really getting worked up now! I suspected as much.

Do you have GSM links?

Engineer 5th Mar 2005 07:40

Of the 3 aforementioned you got one right (will leave you to figure out which one) :ok:

So with a below average reporting ability maybe Oshkosh George should assume that your post about $2 million was off the mark as well :)

webby1919 7th Mar 2005 09:50

Is the DC-10 purchased by GSM yet? Or is it still owned by MYT?

Allen McLaughlin 8th Mar 2005 09:32

Will they be giving it the Fly Globespan livery or leaving it interim ?

Engineer 8th Mar 2005 20:38

Or is it still owned by MYT?
Owned by Finova a leasing company

webby1919 9th Mar 2005 09:49

longhaul

It has been confirmed that GSM will go longhaul all year round to Florida from GLA next summer 2006.
