NCL to CPH SAS
 

Hi all,

does anyone know how the SAS Newcastle-Copenhagen route is doing loadwise? I know that easyJet carried around 6000pax per month on the route in the past, would be interesting to see how many people will fly on the route, now that the route is operated by a 'full service' airline.

Apparently they are looking at going twice daily from 2005, so loads can't be that bad.

Wow!!! 200 pax per flight with EZY - now that's impressive. ;)

Think you'll find it was much closer to 4000 per month, and a 50 seater ain't going to get anywhere near those numbers on a similar once daily rotation.

The 6000 comes from the official caa website mate,

one return per day every day of the month = 62 flights per month, 6000 divided by this 62 = 97 pax per flight.

Heard that one of SAS flights came in with around 20 on board, so taking that as the figure, would expect around 1500 pax per month on the flight.

It's early days for the new service I would expect it to do a bit better than 20 pax per sector. If my memory is correct I think I calculated they were looking for about 1,750 pax per month before they would introduce the second daily flight. They should be able to achieve that (I hope).

I think some months the Easyjet service exceeded the 6,000 pax mentioned.

I took the question quite literally as NCL-CPH, a one-way load, and I know perfectly well the average load was about 100 pax per flight, once a day.

I'm not quite as dumb as you look.

Personally, I would like to see more of SAS at NCL - it's just a shame they are not using their own aircraft!

Perhaps SAS could do a NCL to Oslo flight?

I would expect that StarAlliance would dictate that CPH is more than enough (unfortunately), bear in mind that the NCL CPH is only a franchise op by Cimber.

I thought Lufthansa were part of the alliance too and they do Dusseldorf and Stavanger by Wideroe was a codeshare with SAS.

Why would Star Alliance get involved? Oslo would not have much connecting traffic, therefore a route would not take passengers from the Copenhagen hub or Dusseldorf mini hub

While I think they would take any new routes/operators, i think the future for NT is low-cost. The aim of the management is to make NT the cheapest airport in the UK for an airline to fly into, so in my opinion any new services would be by Ryanair to some of their European hubs, HLX to any not currently served German airports, Norwegian (prehaps?) and the obvious EZY and Flybe. I think NT has got to be next new UK airport for Continental, though this might be 3-4 years away.

Norweigan would be another possible airline to Oslo. Perhaps their partner Sterling might to a Copenhagen service

CO will next go either NCL or STN in my view

Norwegian were supposed to be talking to the airport last year/early this year about service to Bergen and Oslo but nothing more was heard.

Bergen will be operating again on tuesdays throughout March/April.

Who will be flying it? Is this a scheduled flight? and why only March and April once a week?
