EK A380 - no shops but lots of seats (surprise, surpise - not!)
Quote from www.justplanes.com news:
"Emirates and the A380 Emirates Airlines, which has ordered 45 Airbus A380s, will introduce the aircraft into service in September 2006. The aircraft will operate on routes from Dubai to cities like Melbourne, Sydney, Chicago and New York however the first destination served will likely be London. Emirates' cabin layout will not follow the Airbus marketing hype which calls for shops, restaurants, saunas and other luxuries... instead the airline will fill the plane with seats. Emirates is also forced to buy freighter aircraft because there will be very little space for cargo when the A380 is full of passengers." At last we have some press which doesn't follow the Airbus hype about shops & restaurants on the A380. Can't believe that this hasn't been given more attention in the battle between Boeing & Airbus More space for F & J bed-seats, perhaps the odd 'bar', but shops, salons and restaurants? Naaaa... Also interesting comment about needing to buy A380F to accomodate pax baggage - some truth perhaps, but surely it's because there won't be enough space for revenue cargo on the A380 once it's full of pax baggage...? (Sits back and awaits the usual Pprune battle between pro Airbus-ites and Boeing-ites :ok: ) |
Well, we're always trying to persuade the self loading to sit down and keep their seatbelts fastened - so I've always been surprised that the aircraft manufacturers keep coming out with garbage like shops, gyms blah blah.
More seats, more profit, fewer injuries if the CAT catches you out;) |

I agree, when referenced, the standard example has not referred to such luxuries, but most media hype which has been generated by likes of Airbus, Virgin and some others has suggested such luxuries and in so doing ignored the fact that then the aircraft wouldn't be able to carry 555... Not a criticism of the aircraft itself, but the way it is being portrayed... Z. |

You are right, media hype. It often starts with a media question like "could you fit showers in there if you wanted", to which the answer of course is "Yes", which ends up in the news as "showers to be fitted". It's like the "Wrong type of snow" comment universally known and laughed at in the UK as an excuse given during a railway service breakdown by a railway manager. In fact it was never said by a railwayman; they were words of a journalist. |
Then again such hype, as you descibe it, has been extended to the extent of cabin mock ups and complex graphics in various common press articles.....
Suggest that the cabin mock ups are likely Airbus orientated, although the graphics may be just enthusiastis journo's... Z. |
