Crew Meal Procedures
 

What are your Airline's procedures regarding crew meals? Do you require the crews to eat at different times and/or eat different meals?

Is there any regulatory guidance (FAR, AC, HBAT, etc.) in this area (prefer US FAR here)?

As mentioned above, I am primarily interested in hearing from US Carrier Operator on this - but also interested in others as well.

from memory crew eat different meals and 90mins apart. 90mins being the time taken for most food poisoning to show.

90 mins apart is fine on long haul. Charter carriers flights are sometimes only 90-120 mins long - short haul have diff regs. Sure different meals - but cant imagine how 90 mins apart is feeasible within Europe.

actually you are wrong 90mins is the average time it takes long haul captain to quaff a 1st class meal (7 courses!):E

Not if he is ex military. Then the mission is accomplished in around 3-5 minutes!

Yep - we'd have to go into the hold for an hour or so on a LGW-MAN or LGW-JER:D :eek:

Our cabin crew get p1ssed off if we dont eat at the same time, apparently cooking at two different times is too hard. So we always eat at same time.

Aah, I remember those days.

Low cost now, so no crew food. You wouldn't believe the amount of times I've mistakenly thought that low rumbling sound was the number two engine only to realise it's my stomach. Keep talking guys, I'm having fond memories.

Perhaps other airports wanting to attract the low cost carriers should follow Cologne's example and have an airside burger van for the crews.

It is located between Terminal 2 and the remote stands and appears to be very popular. Shame they don't let the pax use it.

Low cost = no crew meals.

Why should short haul airline crew get meals provided by the company. How may employers provide meals for staff?. These costs are passed on to the passengers driving up prices which will in the long run cost jobs.

Why can't you provide your own food. i.e. sandwiches, fruit, water, juice etc like the majority of working people do?.

Because its a health risk carrying all that crap round in a warm bag, in an environemet that makes food go off faster.

Other workers also get meal breaks to eat it, and/or the opportunity to go out and buy food if they left theirs at home!

Would you really wanna fly with a crew in their 12th hour of duty who havent had a minutes 'break' nor anything to eat?

Runway 31 I see your point about Crew Meals - at the moment we have these provided, but somehow I don't expect them to last much longer, for the reasons you provide.

However, my point of view has always been that I'd bring my own food in to work, provided that I'm given time in which I can eat it. To me that seems a fair exchange, but sadly, it is likely that the Crew Food will be withdrawn, and the time will not be available. Sigh!

How do you get to eat your meal just now?. The same would apply if you brought your own. If you have time to eat a supplied meal you will have the same time to eat your own supplied meal.

Not all workers get time off to go and shop during working hours. Bring the sandwiches etc with you and keep them in a container that you can buy in any high street store and they will keep. If you leave your meal at home buy some at the airport just like the passengers do.

Re meals, as a pax I was denied my own packed meal once. The f/a said our paid meal or none.

Reminds me of what I've heard here in Eastern Europe when Aeroflot passengers brought their own salami, black bread and pickled cucumbers with them, accompanied with lot's of garlic.

Ain't that a kick. Are we reverting back to those "good old days."
