EDI ATC TOWER

A very impressive looking bit of architecture which will undoubtly win various awards for creative design etc.

Will it however be possible for GMC to see all apron areas including all the existing stands next to the terminal building?

A mere technicality I know, but I just wonder??

They haven't been able to see them for the last 30+ years, why should now be any different!
Seriously though, a complete and unobstructed view of the runways is what has been lacking and will be provided by this long-overdue replacement.

Perhaps a familiarisation course might be in order?:p

A sort of ATC 'Heineken', reaching the parts never reached before:O

Still, they should be able to see more of their aprons than the poor old ATCOs at Glasgow :-(

Any truth in the rumour that procedural Ground will move from EGPF to EGPH when the tower is completed ? :p

Will the new height of the EDI tower allow views over the Harthill
summit.?

CHIVILCOY 17th Aug 2004 19:33

High enough to see up the M8 to watch the widebodies land at GLA !!!!!:O

The new EDI ATC tower will be 57m tall.

The Stockholm [ARN] tower is 83m tall. The design at the top has two offset "platforms", like a form of counterbalance arrangement.

Can a structural engineer shed any light on this feature?
