Anyone know why this flight was diverted to BFS this Afternoon

I was looking at departures on the belfast citys website and it looks as if quite a few have diverted there.

And they are delayed for a long time aswell

According to BBC News, emergency declared when landing light aircraft reported undercarriage problems - a/c landed safely - BMI website states BD86 will arrive from BFS at 1550hrs

Amazing how the media differ.
On Friday afternoon Ulster TV report that a light aircraft crashed on the runway at Belfast City Airport.
Over on BBC the report states that an aircraft with undercarriage problems made a safe landing at Belfast City Airport.
On Friday an American registered Cessna 210 inbound from Paris made a wheels up landing on the runway at BHD.
Causal factors will no doubt be identified by the AAIB who must have given permission for the aircraft to be lifted off the runway and taken away on a lorry.
This was the reason that three aircraft (two FlyBe and one Bma) diverted to BFS and another FlyBe spent time in the hold.
Credit must be given to the recovery team for a speedy removal of a disabled aircraft but it would be interesting to know who briefed the BBC with such misinformation?:uhoh:

Daft question maybe, but if they knew it was gonna be a wheels up landing because presumeably he didnt have 3 greens or any at all then why didnt he divert to Muckamore where he could have used the short and then there is no major inconvenience to both airports, am sure there is a good reason but am just wondering???

So Caley ...you know EXACTLY where the aircraft will come to a halt....you can guarantee that it will pass through the intersection and not block ALL runways? Think that might answer your question...

come on its a cessna 182 not a A320, but no l appreciate you cant guarantee where it will stop but you have more leeway using aldergrove than you do using the city, sure you can see that.

Not only that, there are engineering services for light aircraft at Aldergrove where there arent at the City.

Well have been hearing stuff that the pilot was told by City Tower not to land as they had seen his gear wasn't down and he proceeded??:confused: And it may be the result of the pilots lack of attention in lowering his gear the airport may be sueing him for the cost of the extension,buses etc to fom Aldergrove.

Would anyone have details of this reality??

Caley ...there are many factors involved ...why would he want to use a runway which may not be perfect in terms of wind?....perhaps even a slightly greater crosswind component might just put MORE strain on the already suspect undercarriage and hence figure in his planning. As for more leeway...that is not my call .I am not in the business of ASSUMING he will stop anywhere...I just plan for the worst case ....
