Easyjet aircraft damaged at BFS
 

The following has just been reported in the press:

"19 July 2004

Plane damaged at Belfast International Airport

An easyJet aircraft has been damaged on Belfast International Airport's runway today while readying for departure.
The Amsterdam-bound easyJet aircraft, which contained 139 passengers, was damaged when one of the luggage vehicles collided with the 9.30am flight.
No one on board the aircraft was injured during the incident. The airline is making alternative arrangements.
A spokesperson for the airport said engineers were currently assessing the damage to the aircraft."

Was wondering if anyone knew further details on the matter ?
I think a similar incident happened twice last summer at BHD to a BMI A321.

Sorry to disappoint but it was once two winters ago at Bhd, it was however twice last year at Bfs but for some reason was kept very quiet. Can`t think why!!

What was a luggage vehicle doing on the runway? :ugh:

Someone with an ounce of sense really should proof read these statements before they are published.

Yeh cos when I'm bringing luggage I'm always on the runway!! Scooting in between the arrivals and departures!

Would seem odd if it "DID" get hit on the runway.Wonder how much the damage is to the aircraft??

Poor reporting I'm afraid. The incident happened on the apron.Service vehicles are not allowed anywhere near the Runways at BFS unless they are escorted by a vehicle driven by a qualified person with an airfield driving permit and R/T competence.
Sadly this type of incident is not uncommon and happens at airports all over the world.
There is a thread in Spotters Corner about a lorry and a Malev B737 which makes interesting reading.
If found culpable, the vehicle driver involved will usually end up looking for another job!
A sobering thought to rampers :uhoh:

Not sure about the damage but last night just the usual six Easyjet night stoppers, not seven.

One final thought to apron drivers (apologies if I am teaching my Granny to suck eggs) ATC are not responsible for separating aircraft from vehicles on the apron.

Sorry, but was it not twice?

I seem to remember a de-icing vehicle hitting the tail of one and while it sat on the other side of the airfield awaiting parts,did another one not get hit by a catering vehicle?

Hi Tower ...yes it was twice....that was the week when the runway there remained deiced ...and nothing got in or out for a few hours one morning...please phone if you need any further details !! :E



Two Bmi Airbus unfortunately damaged at Bhd

I was there on the next stand just after it happened. The damage 'looked' like a sideways scape, but was just in front of the forward pax entry door, i.e. on the LEFT hand side.

What was a baggage trolley doing there??? It was confirmed to me that it had been a baggage trolley that caused the problem by one of our handling staff.

Far too many of the industry aircraft are damaged on the ground by ground vehicles, including steps, and don't forget the sad loss of our colleague at Manchester a few years ago.

You are quite correct, it was sitting on stand 23A this morning attached to a tow bar getting ready to fly down to Dublin.
So many aircraft on the apron these days it is sometimes hard to see the wood from the trees especially from a mile away.:O
It then uncoupled as news got out that a deranged EGAC Ramper was seen leaving Belfast, heading towards the countryside in a luggage truck threatening to ' Scoot' across the long and very smooth runway at BFS in between the never ending stream of orange tailed arrivals and departures!:E :D ;)

it was my ramp supervisor who dented G-MIDH just to the left of the bulk hold door!! lol :O
As for the elevator damage that was the ICS lady behind the wheel of the de-icer.

Hope they remember to detach the towbar before flying it to Dublin! As for the "wood and trees" now thats a novel idea - landscape the ramp with nice green trees - provides some visual distraction from the orange hue - the wood bit confuses me a little - that is unless EZY have added Mosquitos to their fleet!

Now THAT would provide some relief from the boredom of watching that "never ending stream" all day yawn!!!

Jesus ALLMCC - did easyJet bump you off a flight or something? Of your 258 posts I can't find one that isn't either to do with either Bigging Up Belfast City airport or slagging off easyJet..

Well its a never ending stream all day because the airport is open 24/7 and has a full range of nav aids, unlike Belfast Harbour, and ,if I've cast my bait correctly he'll be back to tell us that 'its been called Belfast City since blah blah yawn zzzzzz!' :E

A simple response to your question - I have never been "bumped off" a flight by any airline - particularly Easyjet who I have never had the misfortune to use and never ever will!

One has to ask then ...Why the vitriol and (it seems with no experience to back it up) the constant badmouthing?.Some sort of previously undiagnosed fear of the colour Orange then?
