New Irish Budget Airline

Just spotted this on an internet news site and after the recent closures of other LCC's one can only hope that these guys fare a little better!!!

New budget airline to get off groundÊ

A new low fares scheduled service to Dublin from Shannon Airport will be launched in September.
EUJet will initially operate three return flights per day between Dublin and Shannon and weekend scheduled services from Shannon to Faro, Malaga, Murcia (the low cost airport near Alicante) and to Geneva during the ski season.
The low fares airline will also operate daily services from Shannon to Kent via Dublin and will confirm its UK hub services from Kent International Airport later this week.
EUJet CEO, PJ McGoldrick, said today: "The launch of our new service from Shannon will give consumers in the region access to a range of business and leisure destinations at low and very competitively-priced fares.
"The existing schedule on the Dublin-Shannon route has meant that it has been impossible for people to fly to Dublin, or from Dublin to Shannon, spend a productive day there, and return again by air the same day.
"The launch of the new service should be good for business and good for the local economy in this region. It will also create great access to the Mid/South West region," McGoldrick added.

EUJet was established in May 2003 and currently employs over 130 people. This figure may rise to 240 by the end of 2004.
The company has been approved by the Irish Aviation Authority and licensed by the Commission for Aviation in Ireland.

Do a search for "EUJET" and you'll find alot more info already posted regarding this previously.

Also do a Google search for "TransAer & McGoldrick & liquidation" & ask how he's back in business again?? :hmm:

Snifferdog 19th May 2004 17:23

His son Stewart is running it and has been for 2 years or more..:)

Wasn't Mc Goldrick also involved in Heavylift which bit the dust?

Airlines fail. It happens.. as long as the guy has learned something from it and doesnt repeat his mistakes, good on him.

At least he's not just giving up. Incidentally, EU jet has been going for quite a while now anyway, as did transaer. (Great airline, had the pleasure of flying with them twice)

UK airport operator Planestation has bought a 30 percent stake in Irish airline EUjet, the anchor airline for its international airport in southern England, Planestation said on Wednesday.

Planestation is buying the stake for GBP£2 million (USD$3.6 million).

Low-cost airline EUjet will start European flights from Planestation's Manston Airport in the southern English region of Kent in September, following in the footsteps of low-cost operators easyJet and Ryanair.

"The important part is that we are working together. Because we own the airport, we wanted a flagship airline that uses it as a base," Planestation's Corporate Director Christopher Foster said. "This will help put Manston on the map."

The acquisition makes Planestation the second largest stakeholder in EUjet, after the airline's Chief Executive P J McGoldrick, formerly head of Ryanair.

EUjet expects 500,000 passengers through expanded Kent serviceÊ
Shannon-based airline Eujet has released details of its business and leisure routes from its UK hub at Kent International Airport.
This follows yesterday's announcement of a new Shannon-Dublin-Kent route, by the low-fares airline.
From September, Eujet will fly from Kent to Manchester, Edinburgh, Dublin and Amsterdam and on secondary business routes to Glasgow, Madrid, Copenhagen and Milan.
Leisure destinations will include Genona, Nice, Prague, Palma, Malaga, Jersey, Murcia and Faro.
Routes to ski destinations will to be added in December and include Geneva, Zurich, Salzburg, Turin and Toulouse.
Eujet also announced that Ron Haylock will be joining the Board as non-executive chairman.
Haylock serves on the boards of a number of travel businesses and is also an investor in the company.
The company hopes to carry 500,000 passengers in its first year of operations at Kent International.
Chief Executive Officer P.J. McGoldrick said today: "This is a very exciting development for Eujet. The launch of our new low-cost service will give consumers access to a range of business and leisure destinations at low and very competitively priced fares.
"It will create greater access to the Kent region and should be good for business and the local economy," McGoldrick added.

Well for the sake of the staff who wind up working for them (and iv a feeling it could be a load of ex Jetgreen/Jetmagic staff) I hope it works but the choice of SNN-DUB seems a bit futile! Aer Lingus never made it profitable and if/when the SNN stopover goes that will be EI's excuse to get off the route, then when Aer Arann went onto it with the better economics, they still couldnt make it profitable!!!
But best of luck to them anyway, will be watched with curiosity! ;)

4WiW,
I just have a feeling that EU at MSE is going to be a real success story. I have seen all the negative posts on this and other forums and everyone seems to be unaware of the fantastic local support that EU have. Some neggos seem to think that the only customer base will be from Thanet and the local area. But what EU jet are offering is an alternative to the M25, car parking at only £20 per week compared with £50 at Gatwick, and a really decent destination choice from NE Kent. We booked on day one with EUJet for Murcia at around £35 PP one way. Today the same flight is £57 but even with that price hike, Manston is still a better bet than Gatwick for very many people living in very affluent parts of Kent within well less than one hour driving distance from Manston. The new car park is well on the way and its clear that EUjet will get a lot of support. I can just see the other LOCOS watching with interest what happens at Manston and piling in if all goes well. As a PPL flying from Manston I suspect it will curtail some of the local flying clubs activities, but it has to be a real breath of fresh air for the local economy. 'Just cant help but feeling very positive 'bout the whole thing!

apaddyinuk,

The reason RE couldnt make it work is because EI were still plying their 330's up and down between DUB-SNN. No regional could compete with that i'm afraid!

EU's fare is about 70 euro all in return. Very much favourable with the train service which is bad to say the least. I'd be happy to pay 20 euro more for the flight, thats for sure ;-)

sweir19 11th Jun 2004 09:06

I'd pay 20 more to fly too but looks like we won't have to!
EU to DUB is now only eur53 return all in - way to go
:ok: bye bye rails! hello sky

SNNEI 11th Jun 2004 22:30

Now, all that needs to be done is advertise the hell out of this service and it's price and it will be a winner.

FlyLowCost 12th Jun 2004 10:27

This summer EUjet has based 2 Fokker 100 in Italy for charter flights. One in BGY and one in MXP. These flights are made under EUjet flight code.

They also fly for Volare (flights VA 5000-5999) on some charter routes to Palma and Greece.
