MyTravel Finnair 757 Wetlease

It appears that Mytravel are to Wet-Lease a Finnair for this Summer. This seems rather strange when they are cutting back on Flights and obvoiusly are trying to save money.

Does Anybody have an explanation. My thoughts is that they have a delay in delivery of a new aircarft, or it is to be used as backup to ensure more on-time flights

OH!

I recall British Midland using a short DC-9 out of EGGP OH-LYB to do 5 Heathrow returns a day.. a real rocket....they had to carry an engineer on every sector and he had his own seat in the back.....would that still apply?

expedite_climb 30th Apr 2004 08:26

I believe in the past they have had wet leased BMI A321's doing summer charter work. Maybe instead of this.

foxmoth 30th Apr 2004 09:14

Or maybe because if you do this in the Summer you do not then have so many airframes sitting idle in the winter.:D

spy 30th Apr 2004 10:56

Busy summer program and winter ahead! Reduced number of airframes but still need to carry passengers. Fleet has always been too small to cope with full summer program.

Have used Finnair before and have had Canadian aircraft on wet lease for the last few years so nothing unusual about it.

A lot of work has always been subbed out (25%) rings a bell! The reduction you mention has been in the subbing, the airline has therefore been working harder to increase utilization . No more quiet winters!:ok:

I believe this unit is the Finnair unit that Air Scandic operate in the UK

srs what? 30th Apr 2004 14:48

Air Scandic who normally lease 2 Finnair 757's at MAN have, I am told a lot of charters for MYT this summer.

johnwalton 30th Apr 2004 16:30

Believe one of the Finnair aircraft to be based at MAN is OH-LBX as of tomorrow. Is this one of their newer 75 aircraft?

green737 30th Apr 2004 17:45

I believe it is and is also in new colours unlike most of the other 757s.

db767 30th Apr 2004 19:39

Do you mean new MyTravel colours or new Finnair colours? If it's the latter is it going to be operated by Finnair pilots and cabin crew or Finnair pilots and MYT cabin crew (similar to the Skyservice arrangement) or MYT pilots and cabin crew?

green737 30th Apr 2004 19:49

AY new colours I believe!! I would imagine it would be AY pilots and MYT cabin crew. This is what happens on SCY flights on the AY 752s.

EGCC24L 1st May 2004 01:44

These flights will not be operated by MYT flightdeck or cabin crew
it will be Finnair flightdeck and Air Scandic cabin crew.
It has been leased for about 16 weeks. It is to cover flights during the weekend as the MAN based A320 will operate from CWL. It is also on stanby for MYT at certain times during the week.

So is it MyTravel or Air Scandic flights?? ie is the aircraft chartered by MYTravel holidays (therefore probably using SCY flight no's) or MyTravel Airways (therefore probably using MYT no's)

john8b 1st May 2004 20:39

OH-LBX landed at MAN this afternoon under a MYT call-sign with a foreign crew in the front seats

JB007 2nd May 2004 09:15

All MYT flights are MYT flight numbers - it is just a normal ACMI operation using the SCY B757 summer wet-lease...

The A300 is at LGW this weekend also doing a few flights for MYT.

SCY have 2 B757's in MAN this year...

green737 2nd May 2004 09:41

Currently, G-SWJW is LGW based and G-TTMC is MAN based. TTMC was operating the SCY Palma flight yesterday and LBX was operating a flight to Alicante for My Travel.

NEW-CREW 22nd May 2004 11:49

AIR SCANDIC LEASE 2 OR 3 757'S FROM FINNAIR OVER THE SUMMER, I THINK THEY GOT SOME SORT OF CONTRACT WITH MYT TO OPERATE SOME OF THEIR FLIGHTS THIS SUMMER, USING 757'S AND A300'S.
