jet2 - belfast to prague

According to a report in this mornings paper Jet2 is to start BFS to Prague this summer. No official announcement yet but expected in the next couple of days - for a March start date.More good news for BFS !!!

ALLMCC 5th Feb 2004 17:24

According to "Irish News" will be 4 or 5 times a week - first route to qualify for Air Route Development subsidy announced last year - as always the crunch factor will be fares - Jet 2 have to get this right first time otherwise it will be waste of taxpayers money.

Encouraging to see BFS at long last trying to develop international routes - up to now it has concentrated on flooding (and ultimately fragmenting) the NI market to over capacity with domestic routes already operated from BHD.

Wee Weasley Welshman 5th Feb 2004 18:33

For Jesus sake man - give it a rest!

Just because all BHD can and will ever do is domestics it doesn't mean that BFS doesn't have the right to do them as well and for less money. Just be grateful someone is willing to take a punt at offering NI some decent shorthaul schedule routes. Use it or loose it.

Cheers

Great News!!!!!!!!

I hope this news is correct!!!

This is great new for Northern Ireland and great news for Jet2. It's great to see them starting another new service and from a new base. I expect Jet2 will anounce other destinations from there shortly. Malaga would be the obvious, as its got to be one of the most popular routes after Prague.

I'm glad they're expanding with care. I am sure this year is going to go from strength to strength for them. Good Luck Jet2, Good Luck Nothern Ireland!!!!!!!!

From Yorkshire:ok: the place to be is the City of Leeds

ALLMCC are you trying to say BFS has no right to operate domestic routes, if so I think your wrong. If only BHD operatred the domestic routes we would not have the choice of destinations and would also be paying top dollar, just look what happened when Jet2 started the LBA service, Flybe had been charging almost £300 for a day return, bet they dont charge that now. I dont think BFS has flooded and fragmented the market, just look at the passenger numbers using BFS and BHD, if anything BFS and the locos have opened up the market in N.I. dramatically.
As far as the european routes are concerned lets hope we see a rapid expansion of services from BFS this can only be good news for N.I. plc. :ok:

Buc Driver 6th Feb 2004 05:04

Just checked the Jet2 website flights begin 29/4. Flights 1 x day Mon, Thu, Fri and Sun, checked the price for dept 25/6 - rtn 29/6 £81 pp not bad.

Subsidies for flight routes

As far as the european routes are concerned lets hope we see a rapid expansion of services from BFS this can only be good news for N.I. plc.

Could someone please explain why subsidising flights which send people to spend their money away is GOOD for NI plc? If they were to a business destination such as PAR, which could also offer inbound traffic, then fair enough, but surely tourist flights should pay their own way?

Wot No Post - ALLMCC!

(And yes, I know this is NOT the correct spelling!)

Great news for N.I and Jet2 from whatever airport they fly from, flew from Leeds to Prague for a weekend away, great flight but an even better city!!!!

I think that the English teacher Mr. McCALL is probably sulking somewhere after being told off by the Headmaster.
Seriously though, this is excellent news for Northern Ireland.Keep the new routes coming.
Glynn-Kayes have a long and happy retirement but keep posting please

Cheers WA

Great news for Prague too! This will be 3rd destination in Ireland to join the existing routes to Cork and Dublin.

brabazon 6th Feb 2004 18:08

Interesting to see Jet2 start a route away from LBA. Prague is getting to be one of those destinations which you can get to from most UK airports - are there enough hotels for all the Brits though? Also I am surprised easyJet hadn't thought about BFS - PRG or had they and decided against it, despite the Route Development Fund?

One for those in NI - are you happy for your taxes to be used to support a route to PRG or would you have other ideas for routes?

Cheers matey.I will keep posting but will have to try and type a bit slower especially whilst downing a few vodkas, cause as you know certain people with nothing better to do watch out for speeling mistakks(I did that delibbearratley).Anyway good luck to Jet2 and I think it will work for them. Also, they have not recieved any aid for from the fund for starting the route(or should that be root).

Would'nt that be a shame!

We are concerned about you ALLMCC, please come back (but only if your going to behave and post nicely!)
