Bmi MAN-YYZ

Bmi are soon to announce a new service commencing for the summer season from MAN-YYZ on its A332. Also for the Winter 2004-2005 a carribean destination is planned but no details as yet. Can anyone shed any info on this one. This info so far has came from a reliable source within bmi. Watch this space :D

Seems strange that BMI would compete with their *Star Alliance* partner, Air Canada, on a mothers-and-daughters route. But as we all know, airline management seems to attract the 40 watters. Unless...... Air Canada is to vacate the route. I can see this happening and sooner rather than later.

BMI Carribean destination

This would be Antigua. Talks have been going on with the Antiguan authorities since last March but BMI take an age to made a decision.

Might get a bit busy from MAN as I hear there's going to be a 747 charter flight direct from MAN to ANU as well next winter, and BWIA are getting their 340-300 for a MAN flight s well.

jiml1126 24th Jan 2004 08:27

Perhaps bmi is taking over AC's MAN-YYZ so AC can fly their 767 to other places?

Caslance 24th Jan 2004 16:14

AC's Manchester - Toronto service has been run on a seasonal (ie, Spring-Summer only) basis for a couple of years now, so maybe jiml1126 is right.

It would certainly make sense, given that both airlines are Star Alliance partners and BM don't appear to have much chance of starting long-haul flights out of Heathrow for the forseeable future.

flymeagain 25th Jan 2004 00:01

bmi will be announcing the new route (YYZ) this week. it is only seasonal and they re looking at Antigua for the winter!! trust me on this!!!! they are recruiting for longhaul crew and chefs now, (see cabin crew forum)

What has happened to the rumour about the Manchester- Miami route? is this still planned to go ahead?

GW76 25th Jan 2004 00:54

Wonder if GLA-YYZ will be next as part of BMI / AC Star deal ?

The_Banking_Scot 25th Jan 2004 04:30

Hi,

I would love bmi to launch the YYZ route ( even seasonally) as I would not have to schlep from EDI to LHR.

Plus a double bonus ( Virgin Atlantic miles and tier points on bmi!!:D

Which I currently cannot earn on BA ( 25% disc econ milage of BA miles) or AC.

Plus I love Toronto,Niagara Falls and would want to visit Quebec city and Montreal

Hmmm..... I don't think it would be possible. BMI only have the three A330s with no more currently on order.

Two out of the three are already operating the Chicago and Washington runs out of Ringway.

If BMI use the third A330 on a Manchester - Toronto run, then there won't be a suitable aircraft available to operate Glasgow - Toronto.

flymeagain 26th Jan 2004 05:57

Kestral 1, check out the cabin crew forum (bmi longhaul (man) recruiting). I put all the info on there for the recruiting process. They are recruiting now so tell your girlfriend to get her application in. Hope you find what your looking for, if you need to know any thing else just ask, I'd be glad to help.

Unlikely. This means bmi would need one more 330 for the summer. But the problem is where will this extra 330 fly to during winter period?

bmi/AC deal on swapping carrier on MAN-YYZ has something to do with AC bringing back 767s on Vancouver-Nagoya, Toronto-Rome, Double daily 767 on Vancouver-Osaka.

flymeagain 26th Jan 2004 18:59

man-yyz due to start on the 4th May for the summer!!! bgi might not happen now for the winter as the best bet now is BKK!!!! from a very reliable source!!!!!

sisyphus1965 27th Jan 2004 04:40

BKK!!!

Codeshare with Thai perhaps?
Is it BMI's plan to attempt to operate all the Star Allince long haul routes out of MAN.
The next surprise will be that they need to order more aircraft!!!

(Shame YYZ is not going year round.)

The_Banking_Scot 27th Jan 2004 05:46

Hi,

When will we be able to book MAN-YYZ ?:D

Great news to head to Canada and earn VS miles without going through the US.

( and the bmi business service is supposed to be very good)

The route is confirmed and taking over from AC with an all economy cabin <albeit an optional upgrade to the New Economy>but no business class,so no chefs are being recruted. The aircraft has already been re-configured.

Not entirely true. The aircraft in question is currently operating the BZZ-ASI-MPA contract for the MOD. It was reconfigured before it went but only to put more econ seats in - business class is still there. However, the config might change again before any new routes start which is very possible as it currently has 60 business seats - far too many. If the start date of early May is correct, that would work out as the MOD contract ends early April, giving them a month to reconfigure.

Chefs are being recruited at the moment - 3 of them are on their initial courses.

Correct - it is! One of our saving graces, largely thanks to the cabin crew.

Fingers crossed this actually happens! :ok:

bmi plans to code-share on TG's LHR-BKK sooner or later.

no, no, no 28th Jan 2004 19:51

the bmi service will operate on their usual config of 24 business, 48 new econ & 172 econ.
