Future Emirates expansion

Hey,
was wondering with Emirates launching Glasgow and Vienna next summer what other routes are rumoured to be launched next year.

Has there been an official announcement about the GLA service?

or is it all still on the grapevine??

willywick 14th Nov 2003 00:58

Hey,

Glasgow and Vienna are both on Amadeus but haven't yet been officialised by the airline. I was wondering if anyone really knew if other european destinations are going to be launched next year.

According to the Scottish press, Emirates will announce the Dubai- Glasgow route today. Congrats to the much maligned BAA for securing the route! :ok:

I am told that there should be a 3rd Manchester service within 12 months

the twice daily emirates flights from manchester using A330 will be going to B772 from early next year because of demand and they recon there will be a need for a third daily flight by june 2004.

they are also launching a daily flight from dubia to america via LHR in the spring of 2004 and maybe one via manchester :ok:

Unlikely, I think; for a start, they won't be flying to the US anytime soon, as they don't have an oversight authority acceptable to the US. Secondly, even if they did, they would be doing so n/s; that's what the A340-500s were bought for. They certainly wouldn't use LHR slots, even if they could get the green light for the right to do so.

However, I expect more routes to be added next year, beyond the GLA and VIE already announced.

Non stop DXB-JFK starts 1st June 2004, and San Fran on Jan 1st 2005. Also non stop.

Will they get an early morning slot at LHR?

akerosid 23rd Nov 2003 13:48

Don't know about early morning slots at LHR, but word in Dublin is that GF is interested in flying there, starting with a charter this Christmas and likely to become scheduled by next year.

So, despite having one of the best networks to Australia and the opportunity staring it in the face to be the leading carrier between Ireland and Asia, Australia/ME/India/S Africa, it's possible that it's now blown this chance.

I do hope Glasgow works for them. Oh yes, and Lagos too. The corruption capital of the world should really be a moneyspinner for them.

The GF suggestion from Dublin - is that to Bahrain or to Dubai? Does Gulfair go to Australia from Bahrain? Thanks.

akerosid 24th Nov 2003 14:01

The report actually came from Dublin's Evening Herald and suggested it was to Dubai, but that was clearly wrong; I don't know whether it would be to BAH or AUH.

GustyOrange 24th Nov 2003 16:42

The GLA news is great.

Let's hope it goes double daily within a few years.

Along with the reports of PIA this has been a good week for Scotland's busiest airport.

Long may it continue.

sparkymarky 24th Nov 2003 22:07

Apparently the Continental Glasgow-Newark service is going back to a 767-400 for next summer, so presumably demand to fly to/from Glasgow is better than expected!

GustyOrange 25th Nov 2003 01:40

More great news.

The Evening times has just confirmed the above.

I wonder if Delta will open the much talked about BOS route next year.

Things are really looking up for Scotland's biggest and best.
