A) It's not a new route, its a returning route
Which has never bothered any airport/airline PR unit, ever

A brand new route will always get more focus on it and a bigger fanfare than a returning route.

Wizz have started to load up Summer 2022. So far only difference to this summer seems to be Corfu and Heraklion starting on the 14th and 13th June respectively. Nothing onsale yet though.

Depends who you ask!
Probably be a while until we see them back! Personally I'd be surprised if we saw them back for 2022 and it might also depend on how helpful the Welsh government might be compared to last time especially with the whole climate emergency thing.

Yes, long-haul travel to the East is not returning in any meaningful form this year.

The biggest markets from CWL were Australia and Thailand. Australia has said they won't reopen to foreigners this year so that's a no. Thailand is planning for a limited restart to tourism from the fourth quarter for vaccinated tourists who will also have to have multiple tests, but that will likely be limited and may be pushed back.

Summer 2022 would be the first viable restart date if they ever do restart.

Not sure surprise as already launching DUB. Depends on what T3 are at. For customer experience ATR or J41. Would rather ATR and the fares seem much better than what T3 had proposed. Its probably a strong enough market for both but I would have had money on BRS rather than CWL to be honest from BHD

For those that continue to criticise CWLs marketing team.....here you go...

https://www.cardiff-airport.com/news...n-and-belfast/

Appears they were just waiting for BHD to be released. Several posts from various different social media channels already circulating too

A Bristol route would have required frequency to compete with easyJet, Cardiff is less frequency and fits better around the current flying schedule with the need for another based aircraft. Cardiff also unlikely to attract an easyJet or Ryanair.

It appears that they have made these 2 routes summer high season only and as a result have made ACE the route that crosses over (ending June, starting September) - which is strange because ACE, along with all the Canary Islands, is most definitely a year-round route...

Maybe one to fill with a 2nd based in the future!?

A quote from Spencer in this article implies the DUB route will “enable easy connections to North America via Dublin”

However, there is currently no option to book a through ticket with EI to any destination in North America. This may be a plan for the future as it was previously, but at the moment the flight times aren’t ideal for most transatlantic links from DUB.

I can’t see a demand for self connecting either...

The issue with connecting flights is having enough aircraft available for morning flights to meet those connections. Given EI regional extensive network into the UK, that probably puts CWL lower down the list with having BRS as an alternative. Using CWL as a leisure only route for now means single daily mid afternoon flights fit in better with the aircraft scheduling. Who knows what will happen once USA flight demand returns.

So good news and bad news for TUI Summer 2022.
Naples is back onsale 1 weekly on Mondays no doubt filling the vacant slot left by the dropping of Sharm el Sheikh.
Unfortunately it looks like the 1 weekly Faro on Thursdays has been dropped. Will be interesting to see what replaces it.
All subject to change.

Odd how they have dropped FAO, unless they plan to use Wizz metal to operate the flights. Maybe something else is in the pipeline there as you say.

It's not just Cardiff but Bristol as well which has had other routes cut as well.
Finger's crossed for a new route but I expect an extra frequency on something else.

Are there any other changes for 2022? Will it still be 3 TUI aircraft ? They’ve not added a new destination for a few years now since DBV, NBE & NAP so fingers crossed.

From what I've still 3 aircraft. Naples has filled the vacant slot left by the dropping of Sharm el Sheikh. If there's to be a new route my best guess would be to Turkey. Maybe Bodrum?
