Do the city destinations take their usual high season summer off next year? Normally. PRG, BUD, KRK are suspended for July - early Sept (or thereabouts). Jerez is a good addition, gateway to the Costa de la Luz, a stunningly beautiful and undeveloped coast line all the way down to Tarifa although it can be quite windy. Jerez also easy to get to Seville by train.

More than happy to be corrected as it keeps changing and I don’t tend to keep track but I think it’s as follows;

Jet 2 - 14
TUi - 11
Ryanair - 7
EasyJet - 3

Jet 2 - 14 - June, 15 from 1st July and 16 from around 15th July (Note - 16 based most of the summer with either two spare or one spare and one in STS for Scimitars)
TUi - 11 - was 10 Sunday and Monday until the CUN & MLB return mid month and the base goes 12 based on 4 days only (assume a 738 positions out the other days). It was 12 based originally from late May/earlyJune but it was reduced to 11based months ago until mid July
Ryanair - 7 - 6 based all year until the 7th arrives 1st August.
EasyJet - 3

Rumours elsewhere that EMA’s base is going to be downsized and two aircraft moved over to BHX. If this is accurate it would seem to be a move to compete with EasyJet which look to be announcing several new routes for this winter and next summer.

I've heard a similar rumour and would not be surprised to see more new routes next summer from BHX going up against easyJet.

As for easyJet, can't see them sticking a 3 based for very long, by all accounts base has been going great guns especially for easyJet Holidays. Another based unit would be needed to launch new routes next summer and increase frequency on existing. Think there are another 3 LGW based aircraft are to be released next summer.....

There was a gap in the EZY winter schedule on a Wed and HRG was widely rumoured to fill it which it has. So on present schedule ,no need for a 4th based this winter. BHX may see growth from EZY in 2025. I'm fairly sure I read somewhere they need to reduce the LGW based by another 3 units but remember they are opening SEN so there's no guarantee that any of those will head BHX way.

Not to mention many bases across Europe that any a/c can be switched to.

The rumour is another 3 routes to be announced for this Winter, so aircraft number 4
Then quite a few new routes in S25 so aircraft number 5

Maybe 2 more Ryanair too in S25

How many more based aircraft would BHX physically be able to take as things are? When I went through the other week very early in the morning all the stands looked to be occupied. Presumably more stand configurations would need to take place further down the line if Ryanair and EasyJet continue to grow.

Terminal 2 stand reconfiguration has just been completed and now all stands are A321 size.
I understand similar work on Terminal 1 will take place in the future beyond that more stands will have to be created, the plan was for 3-4 into the bund by the fire station.
Once that is exhausted the only other option is into the car park south of T2

That car park was probably on borrowed time anyway, but I would imagine the plan would be to cram in as many stands as they can before sacrificing the cash cow that is car parking.

There is a bit of room still and it really depends on what U2 and FR do.

I counted 56 stands max at one point but as we have 2 TUI 787's most of the year that makes 54 in reality.

Next summer if BHX gets an extra Jet2, two U2 and two FR it would be around 46 night-stopping aircraft including LH, KL & AF, SN night-stop assuming they come back has gone this winter so I presume that is the end of them overnighting. Currently 16 Jet2, 12 TUI, 7 Ryanair (well next week), 3 easy, LH, AF & KL = 41 perhaps 42 as Jet2 seem to have a spare around occasionally (although they only use 15 Tuesday & Wednesday).

Taxiway Tango would make some more useful parking space but as Ian said the next step after that is going to cost a bit as it will be car park south of T2.

Winter looks a mixed bag with SAS showing CRJ's again and only 4 a week at times, Brussels Airlines 6 per week in the afternoon with the night-stop removed. The double daily Swiss on Monday Wednesday and Friday isn't showing, Air France only four daily Friday and Sunday but the A320 is back on the night-stop which is a boost. KLM interestingly showing an increase to five daily every day with KL1049/50 (KL1433/4 before) never operating at weekends before even in summer but does rest completely New Year until mid February. Vueling Barcelona seems to be 4 per week most winter weeks which isn't too bad and Sun Express Antalya 2-3 per week in winter and Pegasus SAW 4 per week.

Does not BHX publish overnight stand capacity with ACL like London airports?

Cannot be denied that the mix of airlines and traffic at BHX has changed a lot since COVID. Big growth from the likes of Jet2, Ryanair, easyJet whilst former legacy stalwarts seem to be struggling - remember the days of (MON-FRI) 2 daily Swiss, 4 daily SN, 2 daily SK and 4 daily FRA and 3 daily MUC with LH and all mainline KL 737 and AF Airbus ....or were these kind of operations never that profitable and COVID forced a bottom line rethink?

Or has business travel plummeted so much that these routes now rely mainly on transfer traffic and therefore operate at a frequency to satisfy that obviously lower revenue generating demand?

At least Brussels are coming back for the winter I thought this would be quietly dropped after the summer 'suspension'

There certainly wasn’t many people walking round briefcases the other day suggesting business traffic has definitely declined. I know someone who would frequently travel to Düsseldorf 2/3 times a month but now it’s 2/3 a year as all the meetings are done online.

Things have definitely changed, the likes of KLM, Air France, Lufthansa etc used to operate much smaller aircraft like the Fokkers, BAE 146s and CRJs and an upgrade to a 737 or an A320 was a rarity. Now on some days we see more flights to Istanbul than Frankfurt!

Its much more difficult to identify a business traveller these days since the demise of the jacket and tie and their world often being transported on their tablet or laptop packed in a piece of wheely luggage!

That said, there has definitely been a reduction in business travel. My neighbour used to be away just about every other week. These days it probably monthly at most. He does so much now on Teams.
