If you mean Luton, it doesn't need trains because teams, press, VIPs & supporters will be handled by door to door transport.

I see from FR24 there are currently 5 pax aircraft and 15 bizjets on the deck, with another couple of bizjets and an Air Europa, Iberojet and ITA on the way. Are there any pics of this bumper day?

Yes that will be interesting. They will have limited choice, IMO, for short hops if they intend to operate 3 rotations per aircraft because the domestics are available from STN, besides, what UK destinations have been tried from SEN never seemed to have made the grade.

Was good to see EZY recently adding an extra 50 or so departures across all existing routes this winter.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if EDI features as they [SEN] were promoting this quite recently because it's the top domestic destination that's requested by locals.

And is that really how a reputable airline chooses the routes it wants to fly?

In all seriousness, a few press releases and small scale localised surveys that determine a particular route is sought after provides very limited input to the wider market research they'll already have in place themselves.

I'm not saying a SEN-EDI route is not a possibility but on the grounds of which you demonstrate is hardly much of a meaningful case.

What are the airport operating hours as certain orange flights arrive after midnight. Assume this is allowed?

They are not allowed, as confirmed by the airport as few weeks ago

The flight times being advertised with the holidays are not confirmed and are just provisional at this stage.

All passenger flights operated to/from London Southend will be scheduled in accordance with our existing S106 agreement. We have picked up this with easyJet and asked them to amend the advertised flight times.

At some point the winter schedule has been altered. I believe compared to last year the weekly flights are currently ALC 3 (+1), AMS 5 (+1), CDG 2 (-2), GVA 4 (+1), GNB 0 (-1). As before there is some reduction in the quieter weeks.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/travel/2889...on-passengers/

CEO of Carlyle Airport Group, Amit Rikhy, who became one of the airport's new owners earlier this year, claims London Southend is the only airport serving the London market with the potential for significant expansion.

He wants the airport to cater for as many as 10 million passengers per year, almost tripling its current capacity.
Apart from Stansted, Luton and Gatwick.

As a side note, I was going to make my third attempt to head out to Southend last Saturday but gave up on the idea when I realised the terminal would be locked up for the day by around 10am. They still have a long way to go just to reach 3.5m

How disappointing. Thought the big boy talk of 10 million pax p.a. ended some time ago. At least, I suppose, a realistic limit on what may be possible, given as things are now, has been mentioned - 3.5 million is a fair ambition.

I personally do not see how anything beyond 4-5 million could ever be achieved. Just how would the airport ever get agreement on increasing the number of permitted movements needed, once the airport starts to cause significant disruption to people in the area.

So I want to see the airport grow and prosper and would be very happy if it earned a reputation as a good option for many in the region. But it will never be considered a major UK airport IMO.
