Yet we live in a more 24/7 world. Who would have thought you could go to ASDA at 2AM to do your weekly shop 30 years ago? Can't have it both ways.

Wonder then why Luton can struggle to retain staff. Maybe they all want to work at Asda?

One of many jobs from the above listing of vaccines.

Retention bonus: £500 to be paid if still employed by the company by end of the summer period (end of October)

But you are not quoting an exclusive Luton Airport problem, have you not seen the news about Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham.......... You keep harping on about Luton, Luton, Luton when it is an Industry problem currently, and in fact not just this Industry in UK or across Europe.

This is a Luton thread if you hadn’t noticed. Or course this is a U.K. wide problem including much of Europe.

This is interesting , why is Luton’s runway different to others around London?

Cash in hand to a bunch of caravan dwellers to carry out the tarmacking? I am assuming price is the main factor here, just like the terminal. Interestingly, I was watching the NBC nightly news in America when they had an article on the European heat wave. Yes you guessed it, they showed an aerial shot of Luton's runway with about a dozen people in hi vis jackets staring at it. 104F always sound better than 40C.

Maybe in the early years when they block paved the turning circles but hopefully a bit more professional now. I think the last assessment of the runway was done in 2017.
If anybody is interested-
Lutons runway is classified as 75R/D/X/T 75 being the load factor, R rigid ,D Subgrade ultra low , X Max tyre pressure 1.75Mpa , T tech evaluation.
The Subgrade of D Ultra Low is expressed as uncompacted soil , only Stansted is expressed the same of the Major London Airports.
Luton’s runway from the 1950s was concrete and I guess has been overlaid many times and levelled with Asphalt so why a classification of Ultra Low?
Was Luton the only original concrete runway of the four Airports listed in the Article hence why it’s rigid?
I guess the Airport will hope these extreme temperatures don’t happen as often as predicted.

Two El Al flights tomorrow, both showing as 739s.
Who knows, with them bringing 777s back into service due to demand, perhaps one of those later in the summer?
But TLV airport is suffering like many European in staff shortages so not likely to be a pleasant experience.

Having flown out of LTN and TLV numerous times recently, all I can say is that LTN is in a far worse state. El Al also has a very significant number of airframes still parked up at TLV including 737/777/787s.

Where are the likely major pinch points with 19m ?
It seems to have coped rather better with the current July peak than many would have thought. Not luxurious, but it has coped

A quick check on FR24 shows all 788 & 789 active, I think one has never been delivered, all but just a few 737s inactive and the well advertised reactivation of 777s.

That is because Luton is operating well below 2019 figures when 18m passengers were reached.

The last comparable month is May when 1,229,218 passengers passed through Luton compared with May 2019 when 1,660,558 passed through the airport. That is a drop of over 25% making Luton somewhat more tolerable.

The physical infrastructure is not there to handle 18m passenger, let alone 19m, to a degree of comfort a battery hen should expect. We have to remember that in normal times that year after year Luton is voted the UK’s worst airport. Much of that is due to overcrowding. As for pinch points I would start with the immigration hall and the departure lounge. Both could do with capacity limits imposed well below what they are expected to handle.
