LTNman - what has the age of these people in the photo got to do with how good they do their job? Do you know how old these people in the photo are, did you check their cv for the job interview? Regardless of the pro's or cons of the budget for the DART or the expansion plans, you seem to have to try and find something bad to say about everything and anything to do with the airport at the moment because it fits your agenda. You can be energetic and passionate about good customer service at any age.

I have no problems with young people getting a start in life, as we have all gone down that path. They certainly seem enthusiastic, which can be lacking as we age. Let’s hope they remain enthusiastic after a 12 hour shift starting at 3:45 am, as it will be a long day.

I can guarantee most will have moved onto pastures new within a year as those shift patterns are a killer. Even for Luton they are bad. This is probably the reason why only young people in their first jobs have been the only ones recruited as the older job seekers would rather work at Amazon for more money.

I took my first trip on the newish non-stop EMR to St Pancras last Saturday and I have to say it was a shocking experience. The train was made up of 2 trains each with 4 carriages joined in the middle to form a single train making it impossible to walk from one end of the train to the other. The train was packed out with standing passengers plus the train had no luggage racks for suitcases. It was clear the train was old commuter stock that had seen better days. The old hourly service used to be formed of a dedicated long distance train that was far better and was complete with tables. By contrast the 12 car Thameslink train for the return journey was a breath of fresh air, as it was light and airy.
As for the Dart, padely needs to remember that the £268m was borrowed from the Council who have funded a project worth only £75m. While the bus service was dreadful it didn't stop the airport reaching its capacity in 2019 and didn't cost LRT or the Council a single penny. The question is why build it now when the airport doesn't have permission to expand? If the DCO is approved a new tunnel is going to have to be dug to extend the Dart at say £150m with the Dart shut down for part of that time to re-cable the Dart and move its winches. The testing of the Dart resulted in 9 months of trials due to all the twists and turns. An extension of the Dart will see the train having to turn another 90 degrees.
The Dart will always run at a loss and will be sold off without its debts leaving the council taxpayers picking up the bill.
As for more cars off the road that is another false claim. The plans for T2 shows 1000's of new car park spaces being required with road traffic expected to rise by around 50%

The airport got another piece of free publicity last night with a piece on the One Show on BBC2 with Simon Calder and Matt Allwright broadcasting from inside the terminal. It all looked as though there were no queues (although it was 1900 hrs) and everything seemed to be running smoothly.

You can always play with figures, how much did the Gatwick Shuttle & Birmingham transit systems cost with zero income? What big projects ever run at estamated costs Elizabeth Line, HS2 ?

Regarding the Dart, was it for the Council to fund a project that most Luton ratepayers will never use?
Will it actually increase the airports capacity? Only if the DCO is approved. If it is approved then the new concessionaire should have funded it and not the Council, as LRT is meant to be the collector of rents and concession fees and not be a transit provider or speculator. What has happened is that LRT has built it, which has nearly bankrupted it, while the airport operator will run it at a cost of £9m and make a profit regardless of the passengers carried, as passenger income goes to LRT while LLAOL charges a fixed fee.
Will the Dart take cars off the road? Only if the airport doesn’t expand. If it does expand car journeys will massively increase despite the Dart.
Have I benefitted from the income the airport has generated over the years? Yes of course.
Will I benefit in the future? If I do it will be years away. Luton Rising with no debts was a cash cow. Now it is a basket case, with the auditors resigning over a dispute over the directors artificial valuation of the airport to boost shareholder value, which reduces the debt ratio.

At the moment there is no council tax reduction for Luton just a savaging of public services.

Assuming they are not expecting major abuse from passengers, the Customer Care Ambassadors look to be assembled in a construction zone. Why would you do that rather than have them nicely lined up in their proper uniforms somewhere which has no site risk ?

This flight to Tromso has absolutely nothing to do with "Santa", because as we all know Santa lives in Finland. This flight to Tromso is more about the location and the fact that it's a port on the Norwegian Coastal Service. Tromso is also a partial turnaround port for the Norwegian Coastal Service operated by the Norwegian shipping companies Hurtigruten and Havila Voyages.
Having visited on several occasions I can thoroughly recommend the beautiful and charming Tromso for anyone searching for a new destination to visit in Norway after the typical destinations of Bergen, Oslo, Stavanger the the Fjords.

Customer Care Ambassadors should have an easy life with their interactions with the public, as the route and trains have been under test now for what seems like forever. An understanding of rail routes and timetables will be useful but that might be outside their training. Safely training and procedures will play a big part in the classroom.
