From Easyjet

Why is your flight diverted?
We’re very sorry that your flight has now been diverted.
This is due to poor weather conditions in Luton, which are below safe operating limits.

So there's no power to the ILS then. Just typical that it came on a grotty day.

It has standby power that is meant to automatically kick in.

The terminal also suffered a power cut but not as long as the navigation aids.

How can it happen? A CATIII-certified ILS must have an independent backup power source able to provide uninterrupted power (practically with a margin of 1 or 2 seconds).

I wasn’t taking that much notice looking out of the window but I would say approaches were just below or around CAT 1 limits with a low cloud base. Luton used to have a talk down radar service in the days of the then runway 08 having no ILS by using higher minimums.

I assume that as well as the ILS being knocked out so were the runway lights. I believe CAT 3 approaches require approaches to be made on standby power with the mains power acting as reserve. If at the time it wasn’t CAT 3 conditions my understanding is there would be no requirement for the generators to be up and running. Clearly when they were supposed to kick in it didn’t happen.

They were parked again down Taxiway Foxtrot the last time I looked. Just shows that Luton has not returned to normal movements where bizjets were pushed out.

Yes, it seems a few are managing to get in overnight despite the usual summer night ban

There is an Ad-hoc pool which I assume Signature & Harrods dip into which currently accounts for 2-4 biz movements per night. With some EZY & WZZ cancellations this might free up some as well.
It would not make good business sense to not offer an unused slot.

It was always London Fashion Week, Wimbledon and then Silverstone in succession that generated large volumes of exec jets.

Well in the early hours of yesterday morning (Saturday) there were three executive jet movements and a DHL B757 diverted from EMA due to drone problems and repositioned to back to EMA also. It has been like that most of this week. Money talks I suppose.
