The Dart has an incline of 5% which is the maximum the cables can pull the trains up the hill. The length is 1.4 miles or 2.2 km yet the route contains a viaduct, bridge, cuttings and a tunnel. Nothing of the route is on flat open ground which will have bumped up the price. Add to that a submerged station at one end and first floor platforms at the other the Dart was never going to be a cheap build.

Not surprisingly big restart to Portugal by EZY with stupid prices already, W6 must be loading more capacity rather than just x5 week?

The parking at Luton Airport Parkway will probably be a nightmare when Dart starts running. How will they stop airport passengers using the LAPway parking facilities in preference to using the airport car parks?

I just did a dummy booking for a week of parking in mid June, comparing Parkway station with the airport. It's cheaper to park at the airport instead of the railway station, particularly if allowing for the cost of the bus/Dart between train and airport

Even with the cr*ppy bus service, very few people in 2019 seemed to want to walk between airport and railway station

In normal times clever people would park at Parkway and catch the transfer bus and make considerable savings. When the Dart opens that will be more difficult as the multi-storey car park is on one side of the railway tracks and the Dart is on the other with no way to cross the tracks unless there is an option to buy a Dart ticket from car park side. Plans do including building a long term multi-storey car park next to the Dart station for airport passengers so I would imagine the airport will be keen to make it difficult for passengers to use the cheaper railway car park.

A return from Parkway to Luton is less than 5. Buying a ticket simply to walk across the platform bridge from the cheaper parkway station to then access the DART could still help save you a fair bit of money!

With EZY doing Portugal, Iceland & Israel from Luton is it time to consider a run to Gibraltar, for S21, was always popular by MON or have they missed the boat to W9?

Going daily from LGW in June I suppose they would rather look at south of the river than compete with W9 at Luton.

Interesting to see LTN is now the 2nd busiest airport for the last 2 months , although still super low figures

Certainly is the "Scilly" season...
In terms of domestic frequencies for April`21 Land`s End-Isle of Scilly was the busiest route within the UK.
Even LDY-STN featured at #9 in terms of domestic frequency in April.

'Busy' on frequency does not always translate into 'busy' with pax.

Well yes of course...(maybe)

Just pointing the vagaries of stats and even more so in these very unusual times.

It is thought that the Scilly`s service was flying with a full load factor with extra frequencies required...therefore perhaps indicating another interesting stat this time then with load factors!

It could be to do with pilot ratings required to fly to Gibraltar and EZY preferring to keep them operating from the same base? Either way it could be a bit of a missed opportunity given the current situation.

I can't imagine Luton can really sustain two operators to Gib. D you think there are still passengers who would prefer to fly EZY rather than W6 though?

I would say many if not most if the fares are reasonably comparable after the extras passengers have to pay for. Anyone tried to get a refund from Wizz? They can make Ryanair seem quality. I would always stick with Easyjet.
