The Dart station at Parkway has ticket machines, but I can’t see a ticket office.

When the Dart eventually opens, which side of the tracks becomes the principal station? The existing station has a ticket office that is open 6:00 to 00:30 Monday to Friday with adjusted hours at the weekend. The existing station also contains the multi-storey car park but the Dart side will have bus stops and a large drop off area and direct access to platform 1 for trains to London without having to cross a footbridge. I suspect if the Dart fails the back up coach will operate from the new forecourt.

Side by side, new vs old

I didn’t know that both the CEO’s were also reporters. No bias then in the article but there is no doubt the airport has been good for the town. No acknowledgements of mistakes made though and who really holds the power.

Why would a Lear Jet need to land in Pisa?

Wizzair Agadir

Anyone know if wizzair are likely to continue flying this route beyond March? If so do you know when they release seats for this route?

The King riding on the DART tomorrow must be an absolute PR coup for the airport and town hall. Loads of publicity, as a result. Remind me, when does it open to the travelling public?

There was a social media report describing the Kings visit on the dart as a free fairground ride taking people up and down a hill while there are still no plans announced to take fare paying passengers. I think I read here that the whole point of the Kings visit was to officially open the dart which has been dropped due to indefinite delays. I doubt that will get a mention or the massive loses to the council taxpayers at todays show.

You can be sure that the airport operator will be represented in the line up of dignitaries even though they made no financial contributions. I on the other hand was not given an invite despite paying for it.

King Charles III to board delayed Luton DART airport shuttle https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan...herts-63860372

If the delay is now just down to ticketing issues what has LRT been doing for the last 4 years? Is not a temporary solution just to issue 2 separate tickets, one for the Dart and one for the railway until ticket integration can occur or is there more to this than we are being told?

Indicator board at the Dart terminal station with some fantasy schedules

Old Bill everywhere

The King arrives from Parkway,

As King Charles actually travelled up from Parkway they must have created a route avoiding the mud. He left via the service road so I was wrong again.

LTNman, I assume you had a few words with the King about the debt the towns folk of Luton now carry?

He asked me whether I worked for Swissport, which seemed somewhat strange. If he had hung around I would have spilled the beans but he was in a hurry to get to his car, which whisked him off, complete with outriders, to the pond where a not so green helicopter was waiting.

I was thinking that he had had enough of Luton and was keen to make a fast escape. The best bit was that most of the LRT and Council types, who were the not so great and the not so good, were lined up yet were ignored while I had a conversation. It made my day.

While it was no doubt a great photo opportunity for the Dart, he couldn’t open it, which was the reason for his visit. Strange but no one mentioned that they had blundered and only allowed the Dart to be 2 years late and not the now expected 3 years. The BBC reported that the Dart was originally meant to open in 2020, which is true but that soon became 2021.

Looking at the official timeline below, it is easy to see how the costs went out of control with a 5 year build for a track that is only just over a mile long but then they built 2 palaces at each end of the track. Looks very nice though. Shame about the terminal.

Story so far

  • July 2017: planning permission received
  • December 2017: contractors appointed
  • April 2018: start of works
  • Autumn 2019: bridge installation
  • Winter 2021: ongoing train testing and installation, plus final station works
The announcement of an official opening date for the pioneering Luton DART infrastructure project will be made in early 2023.

Bet it would be the same if he went to Warrington, council investment in THG, Together Energy & Redwood Bank is going to cost the local taxpayers dearly, but he would not be in a position to comment or give any constructive answers. £2.3bn risk there!
