In the 2016 referendum, broadly speaking the older generation voted Leave while the younger generation voted Remain
With Covid, the older generation are at greater risk of becoming seriously ill while the young are at lower health risk
The old may be retired or are much less likely to work in shops or the hospitality industry - jobs which often rely on the young to provide cheap labour and whose economic circumstances are more precarious due to lower levels of savings

Self interest alone suggests a likely correlation between Brexit and favouring lockdiwn

The ECDC has come to the conclusion that quarantine measures currently within Europe are totally pointless;

So in the last few posts I have read here that quarantines are pointless, that mask wearing doesn’t work and that the vaccine is potentially dangerous, as vaccines normally take 10 years to develop so the vaccine wimps rejectors won’t be taking it until I guess the next decade if ever. The future seems somewhat grim.

DND delivery

That is, of course, specifically in relation to air travellers. Just in case anyone was wondering.

I am a hardened remainer, but also support a cautious approach to Covid-19 restrictions since vaccination is so close to becoming a reality.

Classification of people to a dumb sterotype is showing more about the people making the stereotype.

From today’s Guardian: Cyprus to waive test requirement for vaccinated visitors The government in Cyprus has approved a plan that will allow visitors who have proof they have been vaccinated against coronavirus to enter the country without a negative PCR test.

Cyprus’s move is the latest indication that life could become much easier for those who choose to be vaccinated, despite reassurances from governments and experts that vaccinations will not be mandatory.

The measure was included in an amended action plan for a resumption of flights into the country. According to the Cyprus Mail, the Cypriot cabinet approved the plan on Thursday. The paper reported:
According to the plan, presented by Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos, which will enter into force on March 1, 2021, people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 will not have to present negative PCR test certificate upon their arrival.

The problem with this course of action is that being vaccinated does not necessarily mean you're not spreading the virus.

You can of course carry the virus on your hands etc but you won’t be infected with it. That means that you won’t be spreading it by coughing, sneezing or talking which must reduce spread significantly. It also means that hospitals in Cyprus won’t be filled with tourists who acquire the virus whilst on holiday.

That's not correct, or at least it's yet to be confirmed. The vaccine prevents you for getting a serious illness, it is yet to be proven that it stops you from spreading the virus through coughing/sneezing or just general expulsion of water droplets. So the good people of Cyprus would still be potentially capable of contracting the virus from yourself, even if you are showing no illness.

Because it’s not yet confirmed doesn’t mean that it’s incorrect. In exactly the same way, it’s yet to be confirmed that you can’t catch it again but the odds at present from reported cases appear to be in the region of 1 in 10 million. Individuals who are annually vaccinated against the year’s strain of flu don’t expect to develop symptoms of flu and they are vaccinated to develop a herd immunity.

You're missing the point. If you have a population that's had little or no exposure to the virus, then they will potentially still be at risk from a plane load of vaccinated people just as much as a plane load of un-vaccinated people. Countries like New Zealand who have backed themselves into a corner have 2 options, either stay isolated forever, or 100% vaccination of the entire population (We're only looking at vaccinating only a relatively small percentage).

It would be easier for Cyprus to vaccinate their entire small population except their EU masters will starve them of vaccine for months to come.

A certain element of the population will be at risk. Note that the UK does not intend to vaccinate the total population and Jonathan Van Tam stated yesterday that once the high risk population has been vaccinated then he expects both hospitalisations and deaths to fall by 99%. At that point, Covid 19 largely becomes an inconvenience rather than a killer. To back up my previous point, my daughter is a nurse. She and her colleagues are being vaccinated to protect their patients rather than themselves.

If people here can claim masks don’t work, despite the evidence, that the vaccine is potentially dangerous, despite the evidence and that quarantines are ineffective, despite the evidence, I am inclined to just ignore your drivel as I really don’t care what you think.

Utter nonsense which is par for the course with most of your posts lately.

Any country within the EU could have done exactly as the UK has regarding gaining emergency approval for use and sourcing doses.

At least keep your trolling accurate.

More likely that they are doing it so the 30,000 who are off self isolating can get back to work.
