Coronavirus Impact on Air Travel

I am hopeful that air travel will go back to the 70s. Fewer airports fewer aircraft. Expensive flights should be the normal. It is great not seeing vapour trails across the sky. No new runway at LHR destroying countryside and communities. Microsoft Teams has now officially killed off mass business travel. This would be all good for the environment and reverse this and previous generations disrespect for preserving the planet for future generations. This madness of growth and more growth for what?
As for the environment global shipping, the fashion industry and the meat industry all do much more damage aviation

I’m torn on this.
On the one hand, I would love normality to return and the freedom to go wherever we want but I’m torn by whether it should or can return.
Certainly, initially, fear, lower incomes, higher prices and restrictions will make travel difficult and occasional for the next 2-3 years.
Beyond that, I hope we as individuals and they as businesses start to be more respectful of the planet and more appreciative of the things we consume.
I think we we will see a shift, not a blip, in travel. I think it will come back slowly, differently, but I suspect the days of mass, cheap travel for business and leisure as we know it is probably gone. A new, nicer, greener, more respectful era is probably dawning.

I would say it is one of the more responsible sectors (and I don't work in it).Have you any idea how much plastic waste this virus has unleashed on the planet globally through fully disposable single use PPE?
The collosal increased amount of dross photos and videos of brain-washed kids painting 'rainbows that don't look like rainbows' that are being uploaded to social media that get stored in energy sucking 'data warehouses' that some estimates put at taking upto 4% of global energy consumption.....
All the extra soap and alcohol based substances that are being washed in to the aquatic environment.....etc etc

I hope that we in Europe and the west adopt a lot of what Asia is already doing as part of normal life - it's not that disruptive:
- Cleaning & disinfecting of surfaces every hour (for example elevator buttons, door handles on buildings etc)
- Everyone wears face masks in enclosed spaces or when traveling or when you are sick
- Temperature checks at airports and monitored quarantine when you are sick (with a wrist band that alerts authorities if you go beyond a certain distance from your home)
- Improved public awareness of hygiene (which took hold of Hong Kong after SARS and is now one of the reasons why the public in Hong Kong behaved so well during this outbreak)

A hated phrase from the Lockdown, the New Normal, we dont really know what is going on now, so many telling us different stories, so what will the New Normal look like, who has the crystal ball ? The way public transport has gone in London today its already gone back to the OLD NORMAL ?

Whatever the airlines do it is still a brave soul who is prepared to risk their life for a few days in the sun and with no covid 19 insurance cover as a bonus for new bookings.
I've been hearing rumours that EZY will operate flights returning to the UK via France so that the 14 day quarantine provisions will not apply. Frankly, I don't believe the rumour. Is anyone in the know about this?

Jet 11. The EU said that the French exemption should not apply to all Schengen countries, only those with a similar or lower coronavirus risk profile. However the UK controls its own borders and can make exemptions if it wishes, and there is nothing the EU can do about it apart from taking the UK to the European Court of Justice for discriminating against a Schengen member. I presume all passengers on flights, trains, ferries originating outside Ireland or France will have to complete something similar to the old landing card from the 1970s.

Downing Street has denied that visitors coming from France will be exempt from moves to quarantine international visitors coming into the UK.

If Easyjet jet flew passengers via France to break quarantine laws there would be uproar not only from the public but from parliament as well. It won’t happen particularly as Easyjet might need further financial assistance from a government it was seen to undermine.
