Perhaps just as well then that Covid should mask that little disaster quite neatly.

I’m glad others are posting things like this because it’s only a few short months since being told on here I was mentally ill just for daring to critique the Prime Minister and Government’s approach.

I took a slightly different context from this article. Still not great news either way.

How about overflights???? if they do not have a legal framework then their is not a lot of places we would be able to fly to

If flights to/from the EU are grounded from January, it will be as a result of EU intransigence in not allowing these issues to be dealt with in separate agreements. The colonialists will only sign a single overarching "trade" agreement with their former colony, and are quite happy to damage it in whatever way they can. (compare the speed and efficiency of Britain's decolonisation in the early and mid-sixties).

Without drifting into the realms of Brexit, can I just point out that it's the UK that left the club, and there is in the weaker position as regards dictating future arrangements with it's former partner organisation. All that said, I don't believe even the current government is likely to be dogmatic enough to cut the UK off from air connections to the mainland, at a time when surface connections may also be disrupted.

Anyway, back to Covid-19, and again, while the UK is in transition out of the EU the 27 are being pretty reasonable with regard to quarantining arrivals from here, despite horrendous case inflation in recent weeks. We are still being treated favourably as we are still one foot in, one foot out. From January I would expect, as a true third country, to find our unrestricted movement to European countries somewhat curtailed, which piles yet more pressure on the air travel industry, and the travel sector more widely.

Overflights cannot be curtailed per the Chicago Convention - a point that seems to have been conveniently ignored in the Middle East.

No doubt the likes of Ryanair, TUI and Wizz will be protesting then to their own governments if the EU makes it more difficult to travel just because we are outside the EU. Ryanair has been complaining to the Irish government that there are no countries on the Irish government safe list including the UK. France on the other hand are already giving unrestricted access to the UK for illegal immigrants seeking a dose of the easy life so I don’t expect that to change come 2021

France accepts far more undocumented migrants than we do. Those determined to reach the UK usually have family connections here,

I was listening to an interview with Eddie Wilson this morning, CEO of Ryanair DAC on this. Surely you can see the ridiculousness of having a green list with zero countries on? Not (yet) implementing the guidance from the ECDC / EU. And considering at the peak of the peak, the air border from Ireland never (and wouldn't have ever) closed per the GFA, I don't understand why this CTA is being ignored.

When do we see the sunlit uplands we were promised?

Correct

Cousins daughter tested 5 times over 6 weeks and positive 4 times, only on negative test could they return to work. Aside from watching lots of netflix and gaming they suffered nothing aside from drop in income for 6 weeks.

So you assume NHS staff don't work hard over christmas anyway ? Funnily enough my NHS acquaintances feel they work hard all year round, covid or no covid.

Ireland has pretty much been in lockdown since March, they insisted on a 14 day quarantine for visitors from the UK and this has not changed since June. They act quickly against the limited number of pubs who have openly flouted the rules, not all pubs were allowed open, Licence revocation faces those who got caught. Unlike here it appears that Govt ministers and other policticians who flouted the rules found a resignation letter needs to be written or else dismissal.

My neigbour due to get married in Aug will return to Ireland in Nov for 6 weeks, hoping she can get married in late December and that is based on likely having grandparents, parents and siblings at a maximum.

Our stages of opening and now lockdown seems almost a carbon copy of what I read weeks ago being applied in Ireland, somehow people coming from Ireland don't appear to be the risk as their total cases are less than UK have had since Monday.

Racedo, Unfortunately, Ireland is following the trajectory of the UK. The 7 day average of new cases is just over 800 a day (yesterdays single day was 1084). Grossed up to the population size of the UK that is over 12000 new cases a day, about where the UK was 8 or 9 days ago.
In Western Europe, bar Germany, ( which is showing a rising trend) the unfortunate truth is that governments of all colours have tried differing strategies and arrived in roughly the same place.
I suppose we could lobby for all borders to be opened up as we are similar in infection rates. But I don't think any government would tolerate too many foreigners in their national health systems.

Italy now added to THE list...
Isolating required for returning passengers from 4am 18th October.

Wales heading for likely "circuit-breaker" lockdown.
