Crazy that primary care has been totally bypassed in all this. GPs can't do a test or even arrange one. You have to do it yourself via 111 or 119. Would be easy for anyone seeing a GP or nurse/HCA at their local clinic to be automatically tested.
Instead we have lots of people stood around all day doing little at testing centres like Manchester Airport. Not everyone who needs a test has access to a car anyway.
Primary Care have a good idea what is going on in their local community, not some anonymous call centre.
I waited 5 days for a postal test to arrive- it came via Amazon & they sent two kits instead of one. The GP (with PPE) could have done it on the spot.
At Hong Kong Airport all arrivals are tested & results come in 3-8 hours before you leave the airport. Here, no-one is tested at airport arrivals. Our tests take mostly 24-48 hours for results. WE have a long way to go.

Probably because you will be sitting on a plane with 230 other Brits, staying in a hotel with a thousand other Brits and then sitting on another plane with another 230 Brits. During that week how many Brits will be practicing social distancing?

I know that weekend data are unreliable, but today Portugal had more cases per head of population than the UK.
And numbers in the Netherlands have been rising for several days and aren't far short of ours.

LTNMan you are getting mixed up between lockdown and quarantine. Your scenario could easily apply to flying London to Glasgow and back, and that is why we had lockdown. Quarantine is only effective if other countries have a higher transmission rate than us, which doesn't apply to Spain and most of Europe so the experts say..

Keeping potentially infected people away from a surgery has always been the strategy otherwise you end up shutting surgeries and wiping out primary care.
GP friend has said in 30 years there has never been a time when all paperwork was up to date. Last 2 months they and pretty much all GP friends have been able to do this. The 3 times weekly demanding appointments people have all decided they don't need to see a GP.

Thats exactly what I am saying, if there are 200,000 people getting/requesting tests every day, they either think they have symptoms or as you say are just taking the piss. I currently have no symptoms and would not waste anyones time by just going for a test for the hell of it. It clearly states you need to have symptoms to get a test. Something is wrong with the system if just anyone can get one. But then again nothing surprises me in the UK with the ridiculous protesting etc over this weekend. Just goes to prove is anyone listening to the advice anymore, yes the sensible people of this country are ! Its no wonder why the rest of the world are looking at the UK and do'nt really want us to travel.

Absolutely. When they tested everyone in a care home or hospital they found lots of symptomless people. And the Chinese found the same when they tested every single person in Wuhan. It's been suggested that these people don't develop antibodies and remain infections for a long time.

Quite right Playamar2 Quarantine is only effective if other countries have a higher transmission rate than us, which doesn't apply to Spain and most of Europe so the experts say..
I've got a meeting in Spain that I must attend after 01/07/20 I fly in/out of Spain same day and actually in Spain around 9 hours from arrival to departure so you can say probably 3 hours will be in the Airport 30 minute travel each way to meeting not using public transport but when I arrive in UK I have to quarantine for 14 days wheres the logic,
I could travel by train Manchester to London roughly same time that I would be on aircraft get on a tube to meeting in London and return home same day no quarantine, I would more likely be in more contact with other people going to London.
How many people make a day return trip into Europe, but not now because you need to quarantine because you will have been in a less affected country for a few hours and in that time you are very likely to catch covid-19
LTNMAN people going on Holiday to Spain etc, it's still not going to be as busy as normal summer periods, we know that the disease spreads less when outside social distance on a beach no problem, hotels that open are not allowed full capacity so less sunbeds around the pool and these will be spread out so you'll be in your own group together, hotels have strict guidelines to follow,
Most bars and restaurants open you will be sat out on terraces again in the open and spaced out as again can not open at full capacity
I'll take my chance better than getting on the tube in London with people who been on a march with thousands of other people with no social distance at all yet our police and government allows it

Many people like myself think we had Covid-19 late January early February, obviously thinking it was a winter bug. The problem is even if we are tested and proved to have had the virus, the science is not sure if we can get it or not again. So we have to live with that and treat it like flu, or hope a vaccine comes up. Everyone should know that travelling in a plane is a place where you can pick up a virus, so there has always been a risk. Let's start the flights again, I think the odds of getting this covid-19 virus are the same as getting any other type.

The stooge representing the government on the Today program this morning was naturally challenged over quarantining people arriving from NZ. He didn't have a clue, when the obvious response is that such people would have had to fly via at least one intermediate hub such as Qatar or Dubai or Los Angeles all of which are active infection areas, and in the later stages would have been sharing the aircraft with passengers from many different countries most with active virus.

First piece of good news for a while if it materialises. Reported in the Daily Telegraph.
Bosses of the travel and hospitality industry have been privately assured by the Government that “air bridges” will be introduced for foreign summer holidays from June 29 to replace blanket quarantine.
The Quash Quarantine group of more than 500 of the biggest names in the industry said that as a result they would suspend their threatened legal action to overturn quaratntine.
