With all of these narrow body small holiday jets being used to the Max (literally, on payload and range stretching) I wonder if we will see both Gander and Bangor once again as the ''crossroads of the North Atlantic''?

Their busy heydays ended once the charter 757's stopped dropping in whilst doing the MCO's and any other destinations.

Flew STN - EWR - STN with Primera on 321 (PAF) both ways.

Had booked row 9, even with child passenger. Confusion at check in on outbound, but allowed to sit there by crew. Only 6 or so spare seats dotted throughout cabin. Premium full.

On return, aircraft full, agent wouldn’t allocate us our paid for seats as they’d already been assigned to other passengers. They then upgraded us to premium seats (seat only).

On time, safe and clean.

We will use them again.

they closed BHX base, messed a lot of passengers and crew around, very high failure rate for sim checks and line checks, trying to keep foreigners out and just keep scandi's,
recommend you don't go there, especially do not put money up front for any type rating, your job wont last long enough to recoup the cost.

Thats entirely false, nearly all Stansted based flight deck are British/Irish, a handful of French, with the odd Scandinavian captain from time to time on the 737.

Flew AMS to MCO on a Northwest DC10 a few years back. We stopped at Gander on way out and Maine on way back. Both were fuel stops. Sorry for thread drift.

flydog,

The reason people are failing sim checks and line checks is because they haven’t reached an acceptable standard! If you are one of those that have failed I’m sorry but the paying public require us to be competent or better. It has nothing to do with your nationality!

The standard of the early joiners was high and but recently a few weak new joiners have crept through the basic selection and then failed sim and/or line checks. I understand new applicants are now being sim checked and extra line training sectors given pre line check.

Winter flying in Canada and NE USA will be challenging even for those of us with good airline and corporate experience.

What can you say about this lot - Chania at BHX was only planned at 6 flights and they couldn't even manage that ending last Monday after 5 flights and Palma finished yesterday, they couldn't even manage to get to the point when the West Midlands schools returned.

Their only defence is from the few reports I have seen of good loads but extremely cheap peak time fares. They must have been burning through the cash fast at BHX to drop so many services so quickly.

They will only be missed by the few that snapped up the bargain fares. I suppose all you can say is at least they tried but failed pretty quickly and messed up the holidays of hundreds if not thousands of passengers in the process.

In less important news, schedules for the Finnish winter seasonal bases are announced;
Joensuu, Pori, Oulu, Lappeenranta, Kokkola, Kuopio are back, along with Helsinki, flights operating to Eilat/Ovda, Gran Canaria, La Palma, Funchal, Rhodes, Malaga,Tenerife-South.

Some lucky STN crews going on a tour of Finland this winter!

Primera let slip in an interview not so long ago, that at lease 2x 738/max will be arriving at Stansted this coming November.
now this could be for training reasons or to swap Aircraft about or in addition to the 321’s or to replace the 738’s.
I can’t see any New routes Being announced ready to start in November though.

Correct, on our crewapp we have "OY-PSJ" Boeing 737-800 - it's coming in November indeed, however nobody knows if it's from New from the factory or from another airline.

BRU, BER and now FRA. What on earth are they thinking??? Surely it would be better to consolidate what they have already rather than rash expansion. Have they got aircraft to cover a further 3 bases? Or will they treat them like BHX and subcharter National?

Where does the cash come from to cover all this expansion?

I think there thinking is too expand into LCC TATL markets that as far as I know of don't have any LCC competition.

Hmm...Primera versus LH & Star Alliance at Frankfurt. Good luck with that !!
Why don't they just take on BA/AA at LHR while they're at it ?

you say that, but they’ve already taken on Air France, Air Canada and United directly at CDG, and are doing a pretty good job of it.

According to this below article, from the 2nd September for around a week the STN-JFK flights were to be operated by their older 737-800's and were operating via Keflavik for refuelling.

www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/primera-air-london-stansted-nonstop-flights-new-york-refuel-iceland-reykjavik-a8509536.html

Did this end up happening?

Things seem a bit of a mess at Primera and I don't get this operating such small sub-fleets of different aircraft to operate the transatlantic routes.

Surely you would either operate a fleet of 737max or A321neo's to fly the routes and not a mix of both. For such a small airline the costs to operate a mixed fleet must be astronomical?!

I appreciate they have the older 737-800s to operate within Europe, but the long haul fleet with A321neos and LRs, plus more 737 Max's just seems a mess.
