Not a lot else to talk about on the Carliles thread, being the only commercial operator

Or crew hours agian - schedule seems to be written round these rather than ATC hours

Firstly the reason I asked my original question, was because there have been a few posts over the last year that have talked about the possibility and the reasons why Stobart Air hasn’t launched a base at CAX. By knowing that the reason for the restricted hours is due to a CAX ATC explains why. Stobart Air likely believe that it would struggle to make a base profitable in part due to the current restriction ATC restriction but also due to the size of aircraft they operate.

Secondly what is boring is your obsession with my posts... It’s just frankly now becoming weird!!

It's not weird - it's just a reflection of how prolific these are becoming on so many different threads. Fair enough on the Loganair thread, you'd expect discussion and questions about LM there, but it's across about half the topics on here - Dundee, Newcastle, Inverness, BACF and more - it's as relentless as it is ridiculous.

Is it? Loganair had been selected to do the CAX flights before the first launch was cancelled and ATC was identified as an issue.

If you work out the duty hours for 5/7 compared to providing 7/7 (365) even with limited opening the number of ATCOs required is significant.
It is sensible to start off gently and see how the service develops over the next 12 months.

The real issue will be the winter months, and a low Cumbrian cloud base from time to time using a NPA.
A Siberian high in the winter months would be ideal.

I would think our Estonian jockeys are well used to poo weather in the Winter.

I am sure all the Saab crews are well versed in dealing with adverse weather conditions.
The point is that unless sufficient visual reference is gained at DA, then they go around and fly a missed approach.
Depending just what they saw, or didn't see at DA, may result in one more attempt to fly the approach. If unsuccessful a diversion, probably to Newcastle for a CAT 1 ILS which in round terms, descending to a decision height of 200ft with RVR minima 550m.

Flying in poor weather is not the issue. The issue is the DA / RVR minima on a NPA.

Loganair are currently using 2 out of the 4 Nyxair aircraft for flights to/from Carlisle - one in daily use and one spare.
HelloFly in Italy are proposing to use Nyxair for flights between Naples, Trapani and Tirana from September. I don't know the fleet plans for Nyxair in general, or Loganair's intentions at Carlisle, but I'm wondering if we might see one of the 2 Nyxair aircraft moving to Italy, leaving Loganair at Carlisle without a spare

Perhaps we should look at the bigger link between airlines, airports and the Stobart group.

No details were released about how many seats have been sold on its three routes to Southend, Belfast and Dublin, or how full the flights have been in and out of the airport.Kate Willard, director of partnership development at Stobart Group, said those figures were kept by operator Loganair and were "commercially sensitive".She was delighted at the progress and said that anecdotally, the planes had been "half to three quarters full"."That is about what we are hitting and what we were expecting," she explained.
Many of the flights are more than the minimum £50 price advertised, but Ms Willard said: " What a nice problem to have. If the prices are more, than means the route is popular and there is a demand."

Smooth take-off for Carlisle Lake District airport

Yeah that'll be why they report them to the CAA every month for publication. Deliberately misleading, or just lack of knowledge on Ms Willard's part?

Carlisle airport currently closed due to a flooded runway. Flight from Dublin is headed to Newcastle.

That will be the expensive, newly re-built runway?

Let's be honest, after the rainfall that Cumbria has had in the last 18 hours I'm not surprised, so let's get real.

So is there widespread local flooding, or just the usual places? Runway has only just been re-built so should have state of the art drainage - it's not like the Victorian infrastructure in the City

Bit of light relief...
(Kate Willard) said of future plans: "Wouldn't it be lovely to get some summer sun? Jonathan Hinkles, managing director of Loganair, on our launch day on July 4, said 'we are going to be looking at other routes'. There is the opportunity for new routes with Loganair, wouldn't it be lovely to see a bit of summer sun? Could we do a little charter operation? It would be the most popular thing to look at. As soon as we started talking about opening here, everyone was saying 'when are you going to Alicante?' We want to put on routes which are popular because then people are going to buy seats. It is just working out what those other routes would be. I think we need to look at some charters. Those conversations are ongoing. But the key to getting the airport sustainable is getting these three routes bedded down."
Flights to the Med are on the radar for Carlisle Lake District airport
