Glasgow 96 miles, Edinburgh 98 miles, Newcastle 60 miles. Hardly 'just up the road'

As a retired air traffic controller, I wish EGNC and Stobart all the very best with this one. In the '60s, '70s and '80s, I saw how busy Blackpool was, and it was great working their jet traffic until about 10 years ago.

Good luck folks, and from whichever direction you approach it, it's a great drive to the airport.

I would suggest that maximum 25 miles would be "just up the road" but this might start another silly debate. Whoops! It already has.

But a revenue guarantee? No way. This route adds nothing to SEN to enhance its value as an asset for future disposal, and, because this commercial activity could end in the blink of an eye, little to CAX either.
Based on the published schedule, the a/c operates from 07:00 to 18:00 5 days a week - I'd be surprised if LM were carrying much risk.

Isn't this timetable reduced since the previous launch timetable, wasn't London twice daily before?

Yes - Southend is well down, and no flights on a Tuesday or Wednesday to anywhere.

You guys are really sourpusses. According to local media, it will be the biggest thing for mankind since the invention of the wheel:
It will be an emotional day for Kate Willard, who has been working towards this goal for the last 17 years. “I think I’m going to cry,” admitted Kate, who is director of partnership development with Stobart Group. “It will be unbelievably emotional in a happy kind of way. But I think my overwhelming feeling will be one of pride

Anyone know if the choice of SEN as a airport in London area to serve is a contractual thing with Stobart?

Is there a plan for any sort of public transport (ie bus) to anywhere within walking distance of Carlisle airport so as to tie up with flights ?
The only thing I could find was the Border Rambler buses which go between Carlisle and Irthington 3 or 4 times per week (yes, week, not day). The nearest train station is not within walking distance of the airport

I know it's a rural area but it sounds like you either need to live near Carlisle (or know someone who does) or you will have to take a taxi for the 7 miles to Carlisle town centre

Last year Stobart said there would be a free coach service between the airport and Carlisle.

Yes, they did say that and they also said that car parking at the terminal would be free, but there doesn't seem to be any published confirmation, and they've said a lot of things...

Gorgeous little airport. Had breakfast there this morning. Great baguette, superb coffee. Two check-in desks and one baggage belt between 'em. Surrounding countryside, beautiful. Approach road / infrastructure, impressive. Will it work? Depends on how well it's marketed to London / Southeast vacationers because £millions are pumped into the regional economy by big spending Lake District destinees from Darn Sarf. (I can be standing on the shores of Ullswater within a 40-minute drive-time from CAX.) Does it offer anything in the way of a strong proposition to business travellers? Wouldn't have thought so: Virgin's West Coast service ex-Carlisle is slick, fast, and reliable. Beats SEN routeing any day. Will there be local / regional support? Methinks so. Will that be enough? Well: who knows? Meantime: such a nice caff. Even if it's taken £5 million from the public purse to have the pleasure of this amenity. . .

All you need is - -

Flights. Pardon me for pointing out the elephant in the room.
Oh, its 40 mins to Ullswater only if there is Car Hire on site at CAX.
Will there be? Anyone know what "facilities" will be meeting decanting Pax?

Magellan..I agree.great cafe and staff! Excellent terminal, but ...sorry to say..no passengers as history..and my previous posts states!

A fabulous light aviation airport.,and that’s it.

A year of schedules..and that will be it.

Many of us Sarfend way are dubious as to whether CAX - SEN will work. But, surely, flights to Dublin and Belfast have every chance?

And I'd have thought a Summer service like CAX - NQY would be a Winner too. 90mins vs up to 9hrs?
However, firstly there needs to actually be flights.

First time round they said the Dublin and Belfast routes did rather well, particularly at the weekend, with Southend having lower than expected demand. I guess this is part of the reason its been dropped to once daily instead of twice daily. The trouble is you need all 3 to work to justify basing an aircraft there, otherwise you may be dependant on a Dublin/Belfast based carrier taking on the route.

However, as others have said, the main aim is to just get flights operating again. Once the airport is up and running, then things can be adjusted and evolve based on demand.

SEN is four flights a week. Presumably reduced based on the money (or lack of) they took off people last time.
