It might have ben loaded yesterday, but the video is entitled "May event", so they get the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Of course, it could have been an event scheduled to take place in May, which didn't take place till yesterday...

Settle down. The event was held during the week of 21 May. In any case it would have had no impact on whether to open the runways to GA as it was held on the area in front of the new terminal building which, as we all know, is to become the Stobart Rail Headquarters as well.

Despite Kate Willard's, head of corporate projects, announcement that:
"It was purely the air traffic control skills shortage that didn't get us over the line. Just that single thing, which is truly frustrating and I am so sorry. Everything else, including the infrastructure and construction, was - and is - on track.",
the airport has not opened to fixed wing traffic and furthermore is currently closed to rotary traffic as well even though that had previously been allowed. My understanding is that the ATC problem is one of Approach Controllers only. The airfield has been shut because the CAA refused to sign off operations on their last visit. I believe they are visiting again in the coming week. Closure NOTAMS are being issued on a week by week basis.

Oh well onwards and upwards! All the important notams regarding the airport finish tonight so it looks like it’s all systems go from midnight! Fully open at last! Will be nice to see some aviation activity again and I’m sure the local incumbents will be doubly pleased,

looking forward to the promised land from now on!,

Sorry to disappoint you HW&A but the NOTAMs have all been reissued until the end of July. The problem is that the CAA have still not signed off the work. One issue that I am aware of is that the drainage gullies running alongside the runways were considered to be a danger to any aircraft suffering a runway excursion but I am led to believe that this has been rectified. The CAA were at Carlisle last week and I believe that they are revisiting this coming week. I have no idea what the current issues are that are preventing the authorisation to reopen.

Just remember, though, that despite this we should all be reassured by the earlier statement at the end of May by Kate Willard, head of corporate projects, who said: "It was purely the air traffic control skills shortage that didn't get us over the line. Just that single thing, which is truly frustrating and I am so sorry. Everything else, including the infrastructure and construction, was - and is - on track."

Interesting gap between "Cardiff" and "City of Derry"...

Just a thought.....the earlier non-non start date must have cost Loganair quite a bit of money.....will they be up for launching the new routes again in September?

Interesting. It's exempt from requiring an EASA Certificate because it doesn't handle more than 10,000 passengers a year. But it's trying to get CAA approval for an EASA Certificate on the basis that it will be handling more than 10k pax/yr. And, contrary to what Ms Willard has been quoted as saying, it's failing to meet those standards so even if they'd got enough ATCOs they still wouldn't have been open.

Is Kate Willard still heading up this project? She regularly updated on @WillardKate but ceased on 22nd May.

Carlisle is a near constant source of amusement. Two questions for anyone who can answer them.
1. NOTAM L4614 de-activates the ATZ and indicates no ATS provided in July. NOTAM L4612 mandates "NO AIRCRAFT IS PERMITTED TO OVERFLY THE AD AT LESS THAN 1000 FT AGL". What civil aviation legislation has been enacted to enable this to be mandated?
2. If there is no ATS being provided in July and at least part of the delay re-opening is caused by an ATCO shortage, is there going to be adequate time for ATC to train up new ATCOs (if indeed they have at last recruited any) to achieve Unit Endorsements for an apparent 1 September start of schheduled services?
