I am surprised they have chosen SEN over reinstating a LCY link

Why? LCY is too expensive to operate to (and not exactly bending over backwards to welcome smaller turboprops). SEN, in contrast, is owned by the future part-owner of Flybe.

Was in JER yesterday and parked next a very clean, white (with Blue Island logos) AT72 - G-ISLN presumably another acquisition?

Guess it's not in service yet, as was parked in the same place all day, and appeared to have some engineers in attendance when I departed around 1730.

Will this replace the last AT42, G-ISLH which I had the pleasure of arriving in from SOU, and was showing her age (29!) a bit?

One more thing - looks like BI will be flying GCI and JER to NQY during the high season S19. Announced over the last few days.

Southend Airport is owned by Stobart Group not Flybe. London City isn’t as expensive as you think if you take a look at the published landing charges. Southend is a poor move in my opinion. It has poor links to London and more expensive than Gatwick, Stansted and Luton. Heathrow actually would’ve been a smart move. Heathrow are offering relatively cheap landing fees for domestic flights nowadays and Flybe have spare Heathrow slots...

Southend has very good links to London actually, the airport station is dead opposite the terminal, just a one minute walk, with up to 6 trains a hour at peak times to Stratford and Liverpool Street. Much less hassle than the bigger London airports to get through as its only a small airport. I would imagine Stobart have given Blue Islands a very good deal to open this service as a Guernsey link has not been operated for about 20 years or more. Easyjet has been operating a successful link to Jersey using their A319s for the past 7 years, so i hope that BI will do well, although with cheaper fares currently offered i expect it will take some of Aurignys PAX away from that horrible Stansted airport.

So JER-LCY but GCI-SEN? Is that right?
Use of the airliners.net patented magic dartboard of route planning?

One is a leisure route, the other is a business route. If there was a market for GCI-LCY, Aurigny would not have dropped the route. Apparently there is so little demand that it even does not make sense für Blue Islands to operate a tag-on from GCI which would be a logical solution to give the folks on Guernsey an opportunity for a quick link to City.

G-ISLI
Reported that this airframe is transferring to the Guernsey register. Does this indicate it is to be sold? Recent arrival ATR72 G-ISLN might therefore be a replacement for -LI rather than the ATR42 -LH.

G-ISLI was leased (from the same lessor as G-ISLN) so they've just replaced the 21 year old aircraft for a 9 year old aircraft. It's at Monchengladbach, Germany on return to Nordic Capital and was cancelled to Guernsey already this week. Information from Planespotters.net.

Thanks for that. It looks as if the ATR42 is continuing in service for the time being.

With the recent announcement from Aurigny that they will fly GCI-JER & GCI-SOU (both Blue Islands routes) it appears that Coates & Veron have thrown their toys out of the pram & are about to ditch Aurigny as the Blue Islands ground handling agent at GCI - the Blue website is advertising the creation of a new ground handling operation at GCI. (Various positions are available including check-in agents, baggage handlers, ramp agents, despatchers and supervisory roles to ensure safe and efficient ground handling of our passengers and aircraft) For an airline that supposedly loses money I wonder how many £10's of thousands this will cost to set up & wonder where they staff will come from, a few will be made redundant from Aurigny & may transfer but I can't see a rush to fill these posts as Blue Islands aren't exactly known to be a good employer to work for.

They have been there and done that before. Not good for staff who might be hoping for a long term career.

Summer Schedule

Any news of how Blue are going to cover their proposed summer schedule?

They seem to be a bit short on the ground of serviceable aircraft which could prove to scupper their plans, that and a lack of crew I hear? I suppose the sports charters are quieter in the summer months but still, looks like it could be a long summer for them?!

Aren’t they the polish ex cargo now cargo and acmi operator ? AT76/ S34 ?

i would guess that the schedule is too optimistic. However it’s not uncommon really to lease in extra capacity ?

They were using a Sprint Air ATR72 over the weekend so must be short of aircraft.
