I understand the issue about the A220 is that it does not fit the main stands 1-11, only the newer 21-24, and of course the ones being built. The Embraer, current and new, fits them all, as at present. As BA are far and away the majority operator, it seems it just won't work for a fleet replacement of the E190.
BA1 generally departs from 21 to 24
British Airways are to suspend LCY-SNN-JFK-LCY from the 24 March 2020.
For the moment British Airways intend on resuming this service from the 25 October 2020.

I wonder if the route will ever return once it's been suspended. This lengthy suspension could well lead to the eventual loss of the JFK link from LCY. It will take a long time for demand to pickup again once the situation improves and with British Airways having multiple departures a day from LHR and with the forthcoming Elizabeth Line opening I think that we may well be seeing the end of New York from LCY for good.
With the obvious reduction in demand throughout the British Airways network as well as the entire travel industry I could also see LGW to JFK being suspended and eventually dropped in favour of the airline concentrating their New York flights entirely at LHR.
Whatever happens it's bad news all-round. 2020 looks like being the worst year in the modern age of aviation.
I wonder what British Airways will be doing with their sole A318 during the suspension. I wouldn't be surprised if it was sold or at least withdrawn and put on the market for disposal with British Airways probably making an announcement during the summer if not sooner regarding the eventual closure of LCY to JFK.

Is there demand for a business class 32 seater jet between LHR and NQY ?
Too costly to reconfig for now.
I suspect it maybe back on the JFK sooner than anticipated

As a traveller with a booking for Sep on the service, I have not yet received the dreaded email stating cancellation! - early days I supose.

Air Antwerp suspend LCY-ANR
Despite issuing an earlier reduced timetable to take effect from next week, Air Antwerp are now suspending operations after this week until at least 12 April.

Considering that the UK Government have outlined these plans it would be rather irresponsible and foolish of them to backtrack on it considering the severity of the situation and especially taking into consideration what other European countries are doing such as France, Italy and Spain etc.
Let's see over the next day or so how reliable your "senior civil servant" acquaintance actually is!
As for the government "decamping to the countryside", it's not as unusual as your trying to make out.
As your fully aware the Prime Minister's official weekend residence of Chequers is of course situated in the countryside. Chequers is near Ellesborough at the foot of the Chiltern Hills in Buckinghamshire, 40 miles north west of central London. If needed a quick trip back down the M40 to Downing Street. The Prime Minister is still probably working whilst he is at Chequers and he and his close colleagues are still in touch to the outside world via, phone, email, Skype, through other minister's, the media, etc. The sitting Prime Minister of the day usually takes one or two cabinet ministers with him to Chequers to continue governmental business.
Whilst the Prime Minister is "decamped in the countryside" at Chequers he is not totally cut off from the outside world as your trying to make out, or are you suggesting he's being selfish by doing so!
What more could the Prime Minister achieve by staying in central London rather than being "decamped to the countryside". He's been an extremely busy person this last week and everyone needs some downtime and his won't probably last for long as I should imagine that his time whilst at Chequers is going to be fully taken up with governmental duties.
Am I sticking up for our Prime Minister, yes I am 🤗

At least Boris Johnson has a decent majority to enable the government to do what iit thinks is necessary, of course it will get things wrong, at present the only certainty that we have is that "We do not know what is going to happen in the future".
Moaning and carping serves no useful purpose, it is time for the country to pull together and not try to score irrelevant political points

I think that the individual I was responding to hasn't got a full grasp of the situation and is obviously someone who doesn't want to understand it.
Time's are very difficult for everyone concerned at the moment and I can honestly say that our Prime Minister along with the Chancellor and cabinet are doing a marvelous job considering the circumstances the country finds itself in.
But of course you are always going to get those that want to contradict it.

At the moment the only BA/Cityflyer route being operated from 23/03/2020 for the next two weeks is the LCY-IOM route on the ATR. The last Cityflyer flight due in to LCY on Sunday is AGP-LCY due in at 19:45

Who else will be operating? Luxair is about to shut down, Air Antwerp already has, I assume Alitalia as well. I have not seen Lufthansa flights to LCY listed in their emergency schedule. KLM, LOT, Swiss, Blue Islands still operating next week?
Wonder how much sense it makes to keep it open for a handful of daily flights, given the airport infrastructure available nearby'ish.

You could make the same argument though about virtually every airport in mainland UK. Southend will be down to an evening flight to Derry and a few weekend services to Amsterdam. Stansted to the odd few flights to Ireland, Scotland, Amsterdam and maybe one or two others. Ditto Luton. Even Gatwick thinks no more than ten daily.
